Fire Spreads to 18 Units at Hillsboro Storage Facility

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue - 09/02/18

A fire that started in one storage unit did significant damage to another 17 at Secure Storage in Hillsboro Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters on Engine 5, Truck 5 and Engine 6 arrived to find flames coming from 6 units on the end of the building housing multiple storage units of various sizes. After 20 minutes of cutting through the metal doors of 18 storage units, and spraying water on the fast moving flames firefighters had the fire under control.

The fire was called in by the owner of the storage unit where the initial fire broke out. Upon noticing smoke and seeing active fire, he evacuated the space and called 9-1-1 once he was safely outside.

A Hillsboro Fire Investigator is working to determine the cause of the fire. No damage estimate is available at this time.

A total of 25 Hillsboro Fire personnel responded to the fire. No firefighter injuries were reported.

The Hillsboro Fire Department reminds you to evacuate at the first indication of smoke or fire, and call 9-1-1 once safely outside.
