Alcohol Use Suspected in Fatal Crash

Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office - 10/02/18

CENTRAL POINT, Ore. – An Ashland man who was injured in a rollover crash over the weekend has died.  Sean Michael Cyr, 22, was pronounced dead on October 1, 2018, at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center (RRMC).

On September 29, 2018, at 10:42 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash in the 1900-block of Kirtland Road, near the intersection with High Banks Road.  A sedan was found on its top; a debris field scattered for hundreds of feet.  The roadway was closed for some time to accommodate rescue efforts and the crash investigation.

Preliminary investigation indicated the 2004 Pontiac sedan left the rain-slicked roadway and rolled multiple times.  It took several minutes for first responders to locate the driver, later identified as Cyr.  He had been ejected during the rollover crash, apparently the result of not wearing a seat belt.  Cyr was found unconscious in the thick brush.  Mercy Flights medics transported him to RRMC with life-threatening injuries.

Personnel from Fire District #3 had to extricate the passenger, Chance Christopher Bullard, 24, of Central Point.  Bullard was also transported to RRMC by Mercy Flights ambulance.  He remains in the Intensive Care Unit at the time of this release.

No other vehicles were involved.  Deputies believe alcohol intoxication was a factor in the crash.
