Motel Fire determined to be arson, suspect arrested

Medford Police Dept. - 10/05/18 
On October 2nd, 2018, at 4:41 p.m., Medford Police responded with Medford Fire and Rescue to the Sis-Q Motel, 722 S. Riverside Avenue, for a structure fire. Room 114 on the second floor was fully engulfed. All the other rooms were evacuated, and a total of 6 people were in the motel when the fire started.  The resident of room 114, Jesus Garcia, was not present when emergency personnel arrived.

A few hours after the fire was reported, Garcia was arrested in Central Point for a Parole Violation in regards to Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. He was lodged in jail.

The investigation revealed the fire was started on the bed inside the room, human caused, and most likely arson. Garcia was interviewed at the jail and admitted to intentionally starting the fire.

No one was injured during the fire. The motel was heavily damaged.
