RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURE FIRE - 1829 NW GOETZ

Roseburg Fire Department

At 2:28 p.m. on April 2, 2020, Roseburg Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 1829 NW Goetz Street.  Douglas County Dispatch received a report from neighbors of smoke showing from the residence.   

Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke showing from both the north and south sides of a single wide trailer.  Firefighters made a quick interior attack to extinguish the fire, conducted a primary and secondary search, and completed overhaul.  The fire damage was contained to the room of origin although the trailer sustained smoke and thermal damage throughout.  The trailer was unoccupied at the time of the fire and the owner has been was notified.  One adult was displaced due to the fire.

A fire investigator was on scene and the cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and most likely caused by combustibles too close to a space heater.  The structure was a total loss.  

Twelve firefighters assisted with firefighting operations.  Other agencies assisting with the fire included Umpqua Valley Ambulance, Avista Utilities, and Pacific Power. 

The Roseburg Fire Department would like to remind everyone that combustible material, like paper, bedding, and furniture need to be at least three feet away from any heating equipment.  

Remember to turn portable heaters off when you go to bed or leave the room.  Ensure power cords are plugged into outlets with sufficient capacity and never into an extension cord.  These simple safety tips can save lives.
