TRAFFIC CRASH LEADS TO FELONY DRUG ARREST

On 01-08-21, around 5:45 pm., Milwaukie Police responded to a two-vehicle traffic crash at the intersection of SE Monroe Street and SE 37th Avenue. Police arrived and determined both drivers were uninjured, and both were cooperating with the initial investigation.


At one point during the investigation, one of the drivers, identified as 32-year-old Michael David Douglas Mason, abruptly ran from the scene and a foot-pursuit ensued. A K9 track was done and Mr. Mason was located hiding under a wheelchair ramp of a nearby business.


A witness to the crash stated before officers arrived, Mr. Mason walked away from the scene carrying a white or grey bag, then hid the bag in some nearby bushes. The witness then watched Mr. Mason walk back to the scene 2-3 minutes later, without the bag.


The witness later led officers to the bushes and the bag was located. The bag contained several bags of methamphetamine, about 4.6 ounces in total. Officers also located a loaded 9mm handgun lying next to the bag.


Mr. Mason is being lodged at the Clackamas County Jail on the following charges: Felon in possession of a firearm, Possession of a controlled substance (Meth), Delivery of a controlled substance (Meth), Interfering, Disorderly Conduct II, Escape III, fail to perform duties of driver.
