Public Service Announcement: FIREWORKS AND THE FOREST DON’T MIX!

Douglas Forest Protection Association

Tonight our crews responded to a fire on Boomer Hill, located about 4 miles west of Myrtle Creek.  Luckily, the fire was contained to a landing and burned less than 1/100 of an acre…unfortunately, it was caused by a firework!  While this careless act could have turned out much worse than it actually did, it was 100% preventable!

The use of fireworks in wildland areas is illegal during fire season.  Those found to be in violation can be cited up to $1,000 and held liable for fire suppression costs and associated damages.

As we approach the 4th of July holiday, please remember the famous words of Smokey Bear, “only YOU can prevent wildfires!”
