FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH ON OLD BEND REDMOND HIGHWAY

On May 11, 2022 at approximately 7:59 PM the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a motor vehicle crash in the area of Old Bend Redmond Highway and 94^th St. in the Tumalo area. The information was the crash involved an SUV and a motorcycle and bystanders were performing CPR on the motorcycle rider. 

Upon the deputy’s arrival she attempted lifesaving efforts. Unfortunately Quinn Chastain was deceased from injuries he sustained in the crash. 

DCSO detectives along with a crash reconstructionist from DCSO and the Oregon State Police responded to assist with the investigation.  Based on evidence obtained and witness statements it was determined Chastain was travelling northbound on Old Bend Redmond Highway at a high rate of speed and passing in designated no passing zones. The driver of the Lexus SUV was pulling out of a driveway onto Old Bend Redmond Highway and did not see the motorcycle. When the Lexus driver saw the motorcycle, she attempted to maneuver out of the way to avoid a collision, but was unable to do so.

The driver of the Lexus remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation. 

Old Bend Redmond Highway was closed for almost five hours while the crash was being investigated. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Oregon State Police, Bend Fire and Rescue, Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office, and Deschutes County Public Works. 

This investigation is continuing so no further information will be released at this time.
