Multnomah Co. The caller said they had access to a scope saw what appeared to be a hiker in distress. Multnomah County sheriffs’ deputies responded to the location to verify the report. Using binoculars, deputies confirmed the sighting and activated the  Multnomah County Search and Rescue (MCSOSAR)  members. Because of the precarious location of the hiker, the Sheriff’s Office also dispatched the Hood River Crag Rats, a highly-skilled mountain rescue team. Around 1 p.m., two hasty teams with members from MCSOSAR and Crag Rats left the trailhead to attempt to contact the stranded hiker and determine the safest rescue option. Deputies have not been able to contact the person nor identify the individual. It’s also not clear how the hiker accessed the area or how long they have been in distr

The employee reported a male juvenile being housed on the detention side of the facility just assaulted one of the other juveniles housed at the facility. The male juvenile refused when ordered to get onto the floor or return to his cell. The situation escalated quickly, with other housed youths joined in open defiance to JJC staff.  Within moments of the original call to the Police Department, two male and one female resident of JJC began destroying the common area of the secured side of the facility. The youths pushed items against the doors leading into the secured area to prevent law enforcement intervention. Every police unit from Grants Pass Police responded to the facility. U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon PORTLAND, Ore.—A Vacaville, California man was sentenced to federal prison today for his role in a conspiracy to traffic large quantities of methamphetamine from California for distribution in Northeast Oregon and Southeast Washington. A STATEMENT FROM SHERIFF JOHN HANLIN ON THE RELEASE OF CONVICTED MURDERER KYLE HEDQUIST

Image
Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office This statement is in response to Governor Kate Brown’s recent decision to grant clemency to a Douglas County man who was appropriately convicted of Aggravated Murder in 1995 and is now free to victimize other innocent people.     I am absolutely opposed to the Governor granting executive clemency to Kyle Hedquist.   Kyle Hedquist conducted a very calculated, cold blooded execution style murder after realizing his victim, Nikki Thrasher, “might” have accidently learned he was involved in a rash of burglaries.  Under his own admission, Hedquist said he killed Ms. Thrasher to eliminate the possibility of her turning him into the police.   He then dumped her body alongside a remote logging road.     The executive clemency granted by Governor Brown in this case is shocking and irresponsible.  Governor Brown granted clemency despite compelling arguments and letters of opposition from Douglas County District Attorney Richard Wesenberg, Marion County District

Oregon State Police On April 25, 2022, at approximately 6:15 a.m. a deputy U.S. Marshal requested deputies respond to the Flying J Truck Stop near Aurora after a suspect wanted for weapons offenses was seen in the parking lot.
