SHOTS FIRED/HOSTAGE STANDOFF INCIDENT

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office ROSEBURG, Ore.  - A police pursuit turned into a several hour standoff hostage incident on Saturday night. Shortly after 9:00 pm on Saturday, November 5, 2022, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 2500-block of Strickland Canyon Road. The driver attempted to flee from law enforcement. The driver drove out Lookingglass Road before turning onto Happy Valley Road. Spike strips were successfully deployed before the driver turned onto Rolling Hills Road. The passenger, identified as Carlos Bernal, fled from the vehicle on foot and then fired at law enforcement officers. The officers, returned fire. Bernal entered an unsecured residence in the 100-block of Bunting Court. Bernal held two people as  hostages as law enforcement attempted to negotiate and defuse the situation. One of the hostages, a minor, was later able to escape on their own. Shortly before 2:30 am, Bernal was taken into custody. The second hostage, an adult female,

We are very excited and pleased to announce that Tyler Christopherson has been promoted to Fire Chief, effective November 1, 2022.  He will be replacing retired Chief Monte Bryan, who retired June 30, 2022.  Chief Christopherson was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon.  Shortly after graduating from Churchill High School, he began his career in the fire serve as a volunteer Firefighter for Santa Clara Fire District in the Eugene area.  In 1999, he began study at Chemeketa Community College and then graduated with an Associate’s degree in Fire Science in December of 2000. Oregon State Police On November 2, 2022, at about 3:45 P.M., a Trooper responded to a call of a large dump site of dead salmon near Exit 51 on I-84 and Wyeth Rd, not far from Cascade Locks, Oregon. The investigation determined the salmon were caught in gill nets. Some salmon were filleted while others were left whole. The dump site was located near a tribal in-lieu fishing site. OREGON STATE POLICE SENIOR TROOPER AND K-9 PARTNER ASSIST IN TAKING OVER 83 POUNDS OF SUSPECTED COCAINE OFF THE STREET-LINN COUNTY

Oregon State Police On November 3, 2022, at approximately 1:01 P.M., an Oregon State Police Senior Trooper from the Salem Area Command stopped a vehicle for following too close, unlawful window tint, and a speed violation on Interstate 5 northbound near milepost 228.  During the traffic stop, the Trooper noticed signs of criminal activity and requested consent to search, which was denied by the occupants of the vehicle.  The Trooper deployed his drug detection K9 and after a positive alert to the odor of controlled substances, the Trooper searched the vehicle. The search of the vehicle revealed approximately 83 pounds of suspected cocaine and a firearm concealed in the vehicle.  The driver was identified as Adolfo Martinez (28) and the passenger was identified as Carlos Martinez (23) both from Renton, Washington.  Both subjects were taken into custody and lodged in jail pending federal charges.  OSP Troopers were assisted during the investigation by Detectives from the OSP-Criminal Inv

COLD CASE SOLVED: MAN ARRESTED FOR 1974 MURDERS OF TWO TEENAGERS

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office On October 3, 1974, 16-year-old Donald Bartron and 18-year-old Peter Zito, Jr., were murdered in the parking lot of the Oak Hills Recreation Center. Both Bartron and Zito Jr. had been shot multiple times in the head with a .22 caliber gun. On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, just over 48 years later, detectives arrested 65-year-old Steven Paul Criss for those murders. Criss lived in Aloha and was arrested near his home. Detectives assigned to the Violent Crimes Unit also handle cold case investigations and over the past several months they developed multiple new leads in this case. By way of background, Criss was identified as a potential suspect shortly after the murders. In December 1974, then-Deputy Jim Spinden arrested Criss for theft. Spinden, who later became the elected Sheriff of Washington County, also found Criss had an illegally concealed .22 caliber handgun in his car. Joint Task Force Serves Search Warrant After Child Porn Uploaded from Local Rogue River Apartment Complex

Sheriff's Office   ROGUE RIVER, Ore. – The Southern Oregon Child Exploitation Team (SOCET) joint inter-agency task force served a search warrant yesterday morning at an apartment complex on the 700 block of North River Road in Rogue River. SOCET served the warrant after discovering numerous images of child exploitation were uploaded from an apartment. Detectives are interviewing possible witnesses and involved parties, and investigations are ongoing. Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies, Southern Oregon High Tech Crimes Task Force (SOHTCTF), Rogue River Police Department officers, and Jackson County District Attorney’s office assisted with the warrant service.   During the warrant, investigators seized digital devices which will be forensically examined by SOHTCTF for further evidence of child exploitation. Sheriff's Office CORVALLIS, Ore. – On Tuesday, November 2, 2022, at 12:54 p.m., the Benton County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash with injuries on HWY 99W near Eureka Rd. The investigation revealed the crash involved a 1999 tan GMC Sierra pickup and a 1997 black Subaru Legacy. For reasons not yet known, the driver of the pickup was traveling north when he crossed the center line and crashed head-on with the Subaru, heading south. The driver of the Subaru, a seventy-six-year-old female from Corvallis, was transported to Good Samaritan Regional Center in Corvallis. The driver of the GMC, a seventy-five-year-old male from McMinnville, was also transported to Good Samaritan Regional Center. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor in the crash at this time. Pedestrian Hit By DUII Driver

Lincoln City Police   The Lincoln City Police Department arrested 74 year old Lincoln City resident Robert Wolfe after he crashed into a pedestrian in a crosswalk. On November 2 nd , 2022 at approximately 4:59 PM, Lincoln City Police Officers responded to the intersection of North 14 th  Street and Highway 101 for the report of a vehicle that had crashed into a pedestrian.  When LCPD and North Lincoln Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on scene they found the victim, a 48 year old male Lincoln City resident, injured on the ground and provided medical aid until Pacific West Ambulance arrived. During the investigation it was determined that the pedestrian was walking across Highway 101 in the marked crosswalk when he was struck by the vehicle being driven by Wolfe.  It appeared that Wolfe was in the process of turning left (South) from NE 14 th  Street onto Highway 101.  The investigation also revealed that Wolfe was driving under the influence of intoxicants.  Wolfe was uninjured in the

Oregon State Police On October 31, 2022, at approximately 11:00 P.M., Oregon State Police was notified by a landowner of a cow shot in his field on Boomer Hill Road near Myrtle Creek.  The landowner was called by one of his neighbors who heard a gunshot on October 31, 2022, around 6:00 P.M.   The landowner called OSP after finding the cow in his field down and unable to move.  The cow died several hours later.   OSP Fish & Wildlife is encouraging anyone with information regarding this event to contact the Oregon State Police dispatch at  1-800-452-7888, *OSP (*677), or email at  TIP@osp.oregon.gov . NEVADA MAN SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR SEXUALLY ABUSING A CHILD

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon PORTLAND, Ore.—A Nevada man was sentenced to federal prison today for repeatedly sexually abusing a young child across multiple states for years. Albert Wayne Welling, 60, was sentenced to 300 months in federal prison followed by a lifetime term of supervised release. According to court documents, over a period of several years, Welling, who was employed as an interstate truck driver, repeatedly sexually abused and assaulted a child beginning when the child was in kindergarten. The child would accompany Welling on interstate trips and stayed in hotels with him in Oregon, Nevada, and other states. During these trips, Welling abused the child daily or every other day at hotels, in his truck or in other locations in multiple states. During the period of abuse, Welling acted as if he was in an adult sexual and romantic relationship with the child, giving the child gifts and allowing the child to use a debit card he funded. ARREST MADE IN GEER PARK HOMICIDE

Salem Police Department Salem, Ore.  — Detectives from the Salem Police Department Violent Crimes Unit have arrested 56-year-old Thomas Patrick Healy as part of the investigation into a homicide which occurred in  Geer Park  a little over two months ago. It was just before 3:00 a.m. on  Saturday, August 27 , when patrol officers were dispatched to a call of a gunshot wound in the parking lot of the northeast Salem recreation area. Arriving officers found the victim, Scott George Tanner, age 35, deceased. Officers learned a dispute occurred between the two men at an encampment in the park which ended with Healy shooting Tanner. Healy immediately fled the area. During the course of the investigation, detectives were able to locate Healy in central Oregon. Today at approximately 7:45 a.m.,  Bend Police Department  detectives and the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team assisted Salem Police detectives with the service of a warrant for Healy’s arrest at a location in the  20000 block of

Sheriff's Office On Saturday, October 29, 2022, at about  9:45 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of human remains found in a wooded area near Hwy 6 and NW Storey Burn Road in the Tillamook Forrest. People recreating in the woods came across the human remains and called law enforcement. Based on the location of the remains and evidence found at the scene, deputies believed that they were of Thomas Geiger. The remains were confirmed to be Geiger by the Oregon State Police Medical Examiner’s Office.  There are no indications of foul play and the cause of death is still under investigation. Multnomah County District Attorney's Office PORTLAND, Oregon – Today, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced that Daniel Luis Cassinelli, 43, was arraigned on four counts of Rape in the First Degree, Sodomy in the First Degree, and two counts of Sex Abuse in the First Degree.  The charges stem from an incident in 2015 while Cassinelli was working in loss prevention at a Portland Rite Aid. Cassinelli allegedly accused a female in the store of shoplifting and escorted her to a secluded room in the downstairs of the Rite Aid. Cassinelli allegedly used both his position of authority as a Loss Prevention Officer, along with the threat of reporting the female’s shoplifting to police, in order to make her feel that she was unable to leave. Cassinelli subsequently subjected her to a number of non-consensual sex acts. Oregon State Police On October 29, 2022, at about 3:00 P.M., Troopers responded to a call of a dead bear in a tree with an arrow sticking out of it near Anderson Creek Road, not far from Talent, Oregon. The investigation determined that not only was the bear struck by an arrow while in the tree, but it also had two bullet holes. Jackson County Fire District 5 was called to assist with getting the bear out of the tree.  Evidence collected at the scene indicated human involvement in the death of the bear.   On October 31, 2022, a second deceased bear in a tree was discovered in the same area.
