FIREFIGHTERS PUSH PRICEBORO FIRE CONTAINMENT TO 65%

Oregon Dept. of Forestry HARRISBURG, Ore. – Firefighting crews on the 309.5-acre Priceboro Fire reached 65% containment today. Suppression efforts are being managed by a Type-3 incident management team and the Oregon Department of Forestry’s South Cascade District. In total, there are 175 firefighters with crews from ODF, local fire districts, protective associations, forest landowners and private contractors.  The Priceboro Fire is located eight miles northeast of Eugene outside of Harrisburg. The fire started around 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2023. Residents should expect to see light smoke from the fire as hot spots cool.  The cause is under investigation.  Mop up defined:  Mop-up operations consist of firefighters pushing into the burned areas to remove unburnt vegetation and extinguish hot spots. Areas of the fire perimeter that are extinguished and mopped up are considered contained, which is a term used to describe firefighter confidence that the fire won’t reheat and escape

Corbin R. Seaman (32) was sentenced back to prison after his sentence was commuted by Governor Kate Brown in 2021

Coos County Sheriff's Office In 2021 Corbin R. Seaman's (32) lengthy prison sentence was commuted by then-Governor Kate Brown. Since that time Mr. Seaman has committed several new crimes.  Deputy District Attorney (DDA) John Blanc has been working diligently in reference to Mr. Seaman’s outstanding cases. On August 7, 2023, DDA Blanc assisted in Mr. Seaman’s case resolution culminating with Mr. Seaman pleading guilty to the following charges.  Identify Theft  Burglary II  Mr. Seaman received a sentence of (48) months for the two charges above. Mr. Seaman was previously sentenced to a (4) month parole sanction, sending him back to prison for (52) months.  

U.S. Forrest Service, (Rouge River – Siskiyou National Forrest Group) Firefighter passed away in a vehicle crash

Coos County Sheriff's Office On August 4 th, 2023, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report of a vehicle crash involving (3) Firefighters from the U.S. Forrest Service, Rouge River – Siskiyou National Forrest Group. The crash occurred one mile south of Powers on the National Forrest (NF) 3300 Road. The three Firefighters involved were on-duty moving fire equipment but not currently assigned to an active fire detail.  As a result of the crash, Wildland Firefighter Benjamin C. Sapper (21) of Colorado passed away at the scene. The news spread quickly to local fire departments and law enforcement, who put together a touching escort of several emergency vehicles to escort Benjamin to Amling-Schroeder in Coquille. Volunteers from multiple local fire departments have been standing guard over Benjamin day & night until he is transported home to Colorado.  The Coos County Sheriff’s Office is the lead agency investigating the crash, assisted by the Oregon State

OREGON CITY POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN DISAPPEARANCE OF MISSING PERSON KARA TAYLOR

Oregon City Police Dept. On August 7, 2023 at about 12:30 am, the Oregon City Police Department, with the assistance of the Clackamas County Interagency SWAT team, arrested 47-year-old Jamon Peter Fritsch on an arrest warrant at 221 Jefferson St. in Oregon City. This arrest was in relation to the missing person investigation involving 49-year-old Kara Taylor.  Ms. Taylor was last seen at her residence, where Mr. Fritsch also lives, located at 221 Jefferson St. in Oregon City on the evening of July 25, 2023.  On July 27, 2023, Mr. Fritsch reported Ms. Taylor missing. The circumstances of her disappearance were suspicious and Oregon City Police detectives immediately initiated an investigation.  On August 5 th , 2023 at around 10:30 am, the Oregon City Police Department, with the assistance of the Clackamas County Major Crimes Team and the FBI, executed a search warrant at 221 Jefferson St, as well as other locations. FATAL CRASH- HWY 20 - LINN COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Friday, August 4, 2023, at approximately 9:26 P.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a vehicle versus motorcycle crash on Hwy-20, near milepost 20, in Linn County.   The preliminary investigation indicated a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle, operated by Seth Allen Ikaika Taylor (22) of Sweet Home, was eastbound when a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500, operated by Joshua G. Staley (35) of Sweet Home, attempted to make a left turn across Hwy-20, near Ingram St (MP 20). The Yamaha struck the side of the Dodge as it turned across the highway.   The operator of the Yamaha (Taylor) was declared deceased at the scene.   The operator of the Dodge (Staley) remained on scene and was cooperative with investigation.    The highway was impacted for over 3 hours during the on-scene investigation.  Witness statements at the scene indicated the motorcycle was traveling at a very high speeds just prior to the crash.   OSP was assisted by Lebanon Fire, Linn County SO, and ODOT.

MURDER SUSPECT ARRESTED IN GRANTS PASS

Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, Ore. - On August 5, 2023, at approximately 11:18 PM, the Grants Pass Police Department received 911 reports of a shooting that had occurred in the 1200 block of SW Isham.  Upon arrival, officers found the victim lying in the residence's front yard.  Officers provided immediate lifesaving care to the victim, 36-year-old Travis Economy.  He was transported to the hospital by ambulance and succumbed to his injuries at the Three Rivers Medical Center. Grants Pass Police detectives and members of the Josephine County District Attorney's Office responded to investigate the shooting.  The subsequent investigation determined the shooting had occurred during a disturbance at the residence.  The suspect, 22-year-old Asa Krueger, was arrested and lodged at the Josephine County Jail on charges of 2 nd  Degree Murder and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. DOUBLE FATAL CRASH- HWY 101- COOS COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at approximately 7:30 P.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a three-vehicle crash on Hwy-101, near milepost 249, in Coos County.   The preliminary investigation indicated a southbound Subaru Outback, operated by Wayne Clinton Lannin (79) of Port Orford, and a northbound Peterbilt and loaded chip trailer, operated by Daniel Warren Niehoff (42) of Coos Bay, sideswiped each other causing the Subaru Outback to lose control.  The Subaru Outback began a sideways slide and crossed into the northbound lane.  A northbound Jeep Grand Cherokee, operated by Connie Gene Hill (52) of Bandon, then collided with the Subaru Outback.     The operator (Wayne Lannin) of the Subaru Outback and passenger, Melinda Lannin (79) of Port Orford, were declared deceased at the scene.     The operator of the Jeep Grand Cherokee (Hill) was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.     The Peterbilt operator (Niehoff) was uninjured.     The highway w

FIREFIGHTERS ESTABLISH CONTROL LINE AROUND 250-ACRE PRICEBORO FIRE, ACHIEVE 20% CONTAINMENT

Oregon Dept. of Forestry HARRISBURG, Ore. – More than 160 firefighters continued to battle the Priceboro Fire outside of Harrisburg. Crews battled active fire and were quick to suppress flare ups.  “We had a mixed bag with the weather today,” said ODF District Forester Chris Cline. “The wind and dry conditions stoked fire activity in some areas, but the overcast was a huge help today. Crews capitalized on the weather and made big gains by fully lining the perimeter and achieving 20% containment.” Firefighters established dozer and handline around the full perimeter of the fire. This control line creates a barrier between hot, burning materials within the fire and the unburned vegetation outside of the fire. Crews also plumbed the fire by running hose along the control line and accomplished 20% containment along the northwest portion of the fire. FIREFIGHTERS SLOW 200-ACRE PRICEBORO FIRE NORTHEAST OF EUGENE

Oregon Dept. of Forestry HARRISBURG, Ore. – Firefighters from the Oregon Department of Forestry’s South Cascade District, two task forces from the Oregon State Fire Marshal, local districts, and private contractors significantly slowed the Priceboro Fire located eight-miles northeast of Eugene outside of Harrisburg. ODF crews provided a strong initial attack through Friday evening with seven aircraft, 14 engines, two hand crews, four tenders and three dozers. Overnight, crews will continue to place dozer and handline around the fire to try and keep it within its current footprint. OSFM MOBILIZES TWO TASK FORCES TO HELP FIGHT A WILDFIRE IN LINN COUNTY

Oregon State Fire Marshal SALEM, Ore.  – The Oregon State Fire Marshal (OSFM) has mobilized two task forces to Linn County to help fire the emerging Priceboro Fire near Harrisburg, OR. The task forces are being sent through Immediate Response, a tool the OSFM uses to send additional firefighters and equipment outside of a conflagration. Harrisburg Fire and Rescue and the Oregon Department of Forestry are in unified command and on scene actively fighting the fire. The Priceboro fire began at approximately 4 pm on August 4 th  and is estimated at 100 acres. The fire is growing quickly, and OSFM has additional resources standing by to bolster additional response as needed. Level 3 evacuation notices are in place through Linn County Sheriff’s Office. The smoke is visible from Interstate 5, but no highway closures exist currently. Search Warrant Served on Large-Scale Illegal Marijuana Operation in Rural Lane County

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office The Lane County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, related to an Illegal large-scale marijuana growing operation.  The warrant included service at a rural property in the 36000blk of Shoreview Dr. southeast of Cottage Grove and a residence in the 1400blk of Deal St. in Junction City.     Given the substantial size of the operation, officials from several area law enforcement agencies to include the Springfield Police Department and Drug Enforcement Administration assisted with execution of the warrant.    During the execution of the search warrant on Shoreview Dr., several individuals fled into the wooded area while several others hid in crawl spaces within the numerous structures on the 13 acre property.  Firearms were found scattered throughout the property within the structures and vehicles.  Despite numerous admonishments, several people remained hidden and the use of chemical agents was required in order to safely g

Police Recover Suspected Stolen Precious Jewelry

Gresham Police Dept   Gresham, Ore.— On Aug. 2, at approximately 10:52 p.m., patrol officers spotted a man known to have an outstanding warrant in the area of SW Highland Dr and SW 11 Ave. Christian Haynes, 28, of Gresham, wanted in Multnomah County for Interfering with a Peace Officer, ran when officers tried to contact him. Officers were unable to locate Haynes, but they recovered a bag with precious jewelry that they suspect was taken in a burglary. Gresham Police is asking for the public’s assistance in locating the owner of the jewelry. Crash - HWY 20 - Deschutes County

Oregon State Police On Friday, July 28, 2023, at approximately 4:26 P.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy-20, near milepost 15, in Deschutes County.   The preliminary investigation indicated a Subaru Forester, operated by Janet Diane Abelein (68) of Portland, was traveling eastbound on Hwy 20 in Tumalo when the driver made a U-turn in the middle of the highway. The Subaru was t-boned by a Ford F350, operated by Policarpo Vasquez Prudente (46) of Redmond, which was also traveling eastbound.    All occupants were transported from the scene to local hospitals for treatment.   The operator for the Subaru (Janet Abelein) was later declared deceased a the hospital. A passenger in the Subaru, Dwayne Milo Abelein (65) of Portland, received treatment for injuries.   The highway was impacted for approximately 1 hour during the on-scene investigation.   OSP was assisted by the Deschutes County Sheriffs' Office, Bend Fire, Sisters Fire, and ODOT.

DEATH INVESTIGATION ON THE WILLAMETTE RIVER

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office The Lane County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a kayak that had flipped over on the Willamette River on Saturday afternoon at about 4:30pm. A male had been kayaking downstream from the Middle Fork Boat Launch when his kayak struck a log and overturned. A second person had been floating on an inner-tube that was attached to the kayak by rope. After striking the log, the kayak became entangled in the log and the male riding in it did not resurface. The person riding on the inner-tube was able to find their way to shore. Lane County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol and Search and Rescue responded to the area and were able to locate the involved male underwater. They pulled him from underwater and brought him to shore but he was unable to be revived. The victim in this case was not wearing a life jacket. A life jacket was found attached to his kayak. The victim’s identity is being withheld at this time.

Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) On Saturday, July 29th, at approximately 2:00 PM, detectives with the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) arrested two individuals on drug charges in the Green area.     With assistance from deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, detectives stopped a vehicle in a parking lot in the 4600 block of Carnes Road.  Detectives were interested in the vehicle as part of an ongoing investigation into illegal drug activity.  The occupants of the vehicle were detained and a search was conducted, yielding approximately 2 ounces of suspected methamphetamine.     28 year old Cameron Sullivan of Roseburg was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession and Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine.   48 year old Weslie Skidmore of Tenmile was arrested and charged with Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine, and Conspiracy.     Both subjects were lodged at the Douglas County Jail.
