Seeking Help from the Public to Identify Suspect

Benton Co. Sheriff's Office - 02/06/19

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Benton County Sheriff’s Office continues to seek assistance from the public in identifying a person of interest for a Criminal Mischief case from January 10, 2019.

An adult male has been seen on camera building a structure in Oregon State University’s McDonald-Dunn Research Forest.  The land is located about 10 miles north of the OSU campus.

According to OSU, “the Forest is extensively used for university instruction and research. Four distinct forest management themes, even-aged, two-storied and uneven-aged, plus reserved old-growth stands, allow side-by-side comparisons of the effects of implementing these themes.”

The suspect is not only building a cabin-type structure, but also cutting down trees in the research forest to construct it.

We ask anyone with information on this case to contact Cpl. Al Schermerhorn by email at alan.p.schermerhorn@co.benton.or.us, or by phone at (541) 766-6874.
