EPD SWAT successfully takes E. Amazon residential armed barricaded suspect into custody

Central Lane 911 received multiple calls regarding shots fired in the E. Amazon Drive/Snell area neighborhood at 5:12 p.m. on November 15. Residents of a home sheltered in place after a bullet was shot from a nearby residence into their home through a window, with glass injuring one of the occupants. The neighbors initially sheltered in place and then were extricated by Eugene Police. The suspect, Nicholas Hanford Gerber, age 29, had access to multiple firearms within the home. 


A CENS message was sent in three block radius to shelter in place for safety and some other homes were evacuated. SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Team, Drone Team responded to the scene, along with Eugene Springfield Fire for medical contingencies. Crisis Negotiation Team worked for hours on the call with the barricaded suspect to try to get him to come out of the house. A search warrant was applied for and granted by a judge. 


At 11:44 p.m., a Eugene Police SWAT operation was successful in extricating Gerber from the house and ensuring the safety of the neighborhood.
