TRAVEL TRAILER FIRE - 581 NE ALAMEDA AVENUE, #7 - 5-7-22

Roseburg Fire Dept.

At 7:49 p.m. on May 7, 2022, the Roseburg Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 581 NE Alameda Avenue, #7.  The fire was reported by nearby residents of the Alameda Avenue Trailer Park.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and flames showing from a 1996 Sandpiper travel trailer that was parked inside the Alameda Avenue Trailer Park.  Upon investigation, firefighters found a fully involved travel trailer that was threatening nearby structures.   Firefighters extinguished the fire while stopping the fire from spreading to nearby structures and other trailers inside the park.  The resident was not home at the time of the fire.  One dog was able to exit the trailer after nearby neighbors opened the back door of the trailer.

A total of 10 firefighters assisted with firefighting operations. Other agencies assisting with the fire included Pacific Power, Roseburg Police Department, and Umpqua Valley Ambulance.

The cause of the fire was unintentional and resulted from an unattended cooking appliance.

The Roseburg Fire Department would like to remind everyone of the following cooking safety tips courtesy of the National Fire Protection Association:

  • Be on alert! If you are sleepy or have consumed alcohol, don’t use the stove or stovetop.
  • Stay in the kitchen while you are frying, grilling, boiling, or broiling food.
  • If you are simmering, baking, or roasting food, check it regularly, remain in the kitchen while food is cooking, and use a timer to remind you that you are cooking.
  • Keep anything that can catch fire — oven mitts, wooden utensils, food packaging, towels or curtains — away from your stovetop.
