SUSPECT IN CUSTODY AFTER POLICE PURSUIT-ALBANY PD CASE 22-03486

Today, June 8th, 2022 at 9:32am Albany Police were called to a local convenience store for a male acting suspicious. The vehicle description matched a stolen vehicle involved in a robbery earlier today in Linn County. Albany Police attempted to contact the subject who fled in the vehicle leading Albany Police in a pursuit lasting approximately 10 minutes. The suspect vehicle struck a Fed Ex delivery vehicle at the intersection of Salem Avenue and Geary St. The suspect vehicle then struck two other vehicles, a 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser and a 1984 Isuzu pickup before coming to a stop in the Stop-n-Go parking lot. The suspect vehicle suffered major damage and the male suspect had to be extricated by Albany Fire Department personnel. 

Albany Fire Department personnel evaluated all occupants of all involved vehicles and the suspect was the only person transported to a local area hospital with unknown injuries. Albany Police verified the suspect was operating a 2022 Nissan Altima which had been reported stolen from Salem Nissan. All involved vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Members of Oregon State Police and Linn County Sherriff’s Office are assisting in the investigation. 

The male suspect has been identified as Grant Tyler Rasband, 24 years old, of the Salem area. Albany Police are remaining with Rasband as he is being evaluated. 

The suspect is in custody on the following charges: 

  • Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle
  • Burglary II
  • Reckless Driving
  • Elude 
  • Criminal Mischief

 

Robbery charges are pending as Linn County Sheriff’s Office continues their investigation and Oregon State Police is investigating the crash.
