𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗬 𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗞 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗘 UPDATE

Fire crews made great progress overnight with lining the #CheneyCreekFire, seen south of Grants Pass and Wilderville above the Marble Mountain Quarry.  As of this morning, more crews are headed up to continue the containment and mop-up of the fire that is estimated at just under 30 acres.  Please follow ODF Southwest Oregon District for detailed information on fire containment and progress.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire will continue to have visible smoke on the top of the ridge until mop-up is completed (as seen in this picture this morning viewed from Fish Hatchery Road).  Aircraft will also be seen overhead as they use bucket drops to aid in mop-up in the steep terrain.  This is normal activity and is no cause for alarm.

At the height of the incident yesterday, Josephine Co. Emergency Management sent out a courtesy notification to approximately 150 nearby residents informing them of the fire.  The notification was sent via "Citizen Alert".  If you live anywhere in Josephine or Jackson Counties and have not already signed up for Citizen Alert but would like to, please check it out at http://www.rvem.org/Citizen-Alert It should not be your only source of information, but rather supplement the many other forms of information-sharing that occurs during rapidly-developing emergencies.
