PPB, OSP MAKE ARRESTS AND SEIZE DRUGS DURING MULTI-AGENCY MISSION

Portland Police Bureau

On the evening of Wednesday, October 18, 2023, the Central NRT Bike Squad and Oregon State Police (OSP), as part of an on-going collaborative partnership at the direction of Governor Tina Kotek, conducted a counter fentanyl-dealing mission in Downtown Portland’s city center.

Seven state troopers on mountain bikes, patrol troopers and undercover OSP detectives from the Drug Enforcement Section worked with four PPB bike officers to arrest eight people for either delivery of fentanyl or possession of fentanyl. Law enforcement also seized suspected fentanyl pills and powder and recovered three illegally-possessed handguns over the course of one night.

“Collaborative patrols between PPB and OSP are having some success. We remain committed to supporting our partners at PPB and helping in their efforts to bring a sense of safety to the downtown core by disrupting and deterring dangerous criminal actions and working to break the deadly grasp of fentanyl in our communities,” OSP Superintendent Casey Codding said. “We are also grateful for the assistance of our county and federal partners in this effort.”

Additionally, federal partners from the U.S. Department of Justice, the Portland FBI office and Homeland Security Investigations were on scene to assist.

These missions are part of a long-term partnership between PPB and the Oregon State Police. Anyone with information on fentanyl dealing in Downtown Portland is asked to contact the Central NRT Bike Squad via email at centralbikesquad@police.portlandoregon.gov.
