YAMHILL COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE CONTINUES UNRELATED SHOOTING INVESTIGATIONS

Yamhill Co. Sheriff's Office

The Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigations into two unrelated shooting incidents in Yamhill County.  The first incident, occurring yesterday afternoon on NW Russell Creek Road in rural Yamhill, is still an active investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

The victim in the case is a 16-year-old from Polk County, OR.  Investigators have yet to find any connection to Yamhill County, and personnel from the Yamhill County District Attorney’s Office Crime Victim Advocate’s office are working with the family of the victim.  The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds, with one of those wounds being fatal.

Based on the age of the victim, and the need to preserve viable investigative leads, the identity of the victim is being withheld at this time.  Detectives are working those leads and when we are able, additional information will be released.

The Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from the following agencies during the initial response to this call:

-Yamhill Police Department

-Carlton Police Department

-Yamhill County Public Works

-Washington County Sheriff’s Office

-McMinnville Police Department

-Newberg Dundee Police Department

-Oregon State Police

The second incident is a shooting that took place in rural Hillsboro this morning around 2:30 am. The 911 caller reported multiple gunshots being fired at a residence which is located near Bald Peak State Park. Initial responding deputies discovered evidence of gunfire and a very thorough area search was conducted using FLIR equipped drones, a K9, and personnel from the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and Newberg-Dundee Police Department. After verifying there were no threats in the immediate area, additional investigative resources were called in utilizing the Yamhill County Major Crimes Response Team protocol.  Mutual aid detectives from the McMinnville Police Department, Oregon State Police, and Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office with processing an extensive scene.

Evidence of gunfire directed into the targeted residence was recovered and investigators are following all leads developed from that evidence.  There was one occupant of the home inside when the incident occurred, but the identity and current condition of the occupant is intentionally being withheld to give investigators time to follow up on time sensitive information.

While we strive to provide as much information as possible, there are times when details of a case are critical to the solvability of the crime(s), and we have to make a determination to hold back some information in order to protect the integrity of the case or allow time for detectives to follow specific leads before that information is released.

We will continue to provide detailed updates as we are able to, and keep the community informed of what is going on in our county.

We would also like to thank our many mutual aid partners who have provided valuable assistance with these two significant cases in such a short period of time.
