Person Found Deceased in Early Morning House Fire

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue

At 12:55 a.m., a caller to 911 reported a residential fire on NW Meek Road, off Jackson School Road, north of Hillsboro. Light from the flames had awoken the caller, who lived across the street. Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies were first to arrive and reported heavy, black smoke and fire coming through the roof. They also reported the doorknobs were hot to the touch, with heavy smoke and fire near the doors.

Hillsboro Fire & Rescue arrived, and firefighters began to work on extinguishing the fire and initiating an immediate search of the home. They located one occupant and extricated the individual from the residence. Tragically, the individual was determined to be deceased.

Firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and Hillsboro Fire & Rescue worked together to bring the fire under control quickly. Due to its location, water tenders were dispatched to bring water to the location. TVF&R fire investigators responded to the scene and are working to determine the fire's cause and origin.

Partnerships with our neighboring fire agencies allow for the dispatching of the closest units available to ensure effective response reliability. Agencies work closely together under the designated incident commander, and when it is safe to do so, transfer command to the primary fire service providers.

TVF&R is grateful for assistance from Hillsboro Fire & Rescue, American Medical Response, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Washington County Medical Examiner’s Office.
