Oregon State Police Drug Detection K-9 & his handler strike again Linn County

Oregon State Police   On January 17, 2022, an Oregon State Police Trooper and his K9 partner “Titan” stopped a vehicle on I-5 near milepost 224 in Linn County for a speed violation. During the traffic stop the driver, an adult male, was contacted. While the trooper was conducting the investigation, he observed signs of criminal activity. A consent search of the vehicle revealed 3 pounds of crystal methamphetamine, which was located in the trunk of the car.  Also in the vehicle, was the driver’s ten  and six year old daughters. The juveniles were taken into protective custody and later released to an aunt. The driver was taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff's Office From January 1 st  – December 31 st , 2021, the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office has executed search warrants on 52 alleged illegal marijuana cultivation operations within Josephine County.  Many of these operations have been conducted in partnership with other law enforcement agencies.  Those agencies include the Josephine Marijuana Enforcement Team (JMET), Rogue Area Drug Enforcement Team (OSP, GPDPS, Parole and Probation), Oregon State Police, Illegal Marijuana Enforcement Team (IMET, Jackson County SO, Medford PD), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Josephine County Code Enforcement, Oregon State Health Administration, the Josephine County Water Master, Department of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Environmental Quality, Oregon Department of Agriculture and the Oregon Liquor Control Commission. SEARCH WARRANT FOR ILLEGAL MARIJUANA

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On January 18, 2022, the Josephine Marijuana Enforcement Team (JMET) in partnership with Oregon State Police Southwest Region Drug Enforcement Team, Rogue Area Drug Enforcement Team, consisting of Grants Pass Police Department and Josephine County Parole and Probation, conducted a search warrant in the 400 block of Crystal Springs Road. During the execution of the warrant an illegal indoor marijuana cultivation operation was located.  Approximately 400 marijuana plants were seized and destroyed.  The above listed individuals were arrested and lodged in the Josephine County Jail. VEHICLE THEFT SUSPECT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER BARRICADING HIMSELF

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office A vehicle theft suspect is in custody after barricading himself in a stranger’s home in the Pleasant Hill area this morning.  The Lane County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police responded to the area of Edenvale Rd. and Filbert Ln. at approximately 8:30am. A citizen reported that their vehicle had been stolen from a location in Eugene and loaded onto a flatbed trailer. The citizen followed the vehicle until it became stuck in the mud at an address off of Edenvale Rd.  Responding units arrived at which time the suspect fled on foot and barricaded himself in a nearby house.  Deputies and troopers quickly established a perimeter and began loud hailing the suspect.  The Eugene Police Explosives Disposal Unit also responded and were able to safely approach the residence with the use of a remotely controlled robot.  The suspect was located by the robot hiding near a couch inside the residence.  He eventually surrendered and exited the residence.  He was tak

FATAL CRASH ON HWY 42-DOUGLAS COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Friday, January 14, 2022 at approximately 5:25 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle crash on Highway 42 near milepost 75.  Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999 Ford Ranger Pickup, operated by James Chittum Jr. (75) of Roseburg, was southbound on Landers Avenue approaching the Highway 42 intersection. The Ford Ranger entered Highway 42 and into the path of a westbound Harley Davidson Motorcycle, operated by Brian Porter (54) of Roseburg. The Harley Davidson motorcycle crashed with the Ford Ranger causing Porter to be ejected from the motorcycle. Two eastbound passenger cars, a Toyota Avalon, operated by Max GODEK (73) of Winston, and a Honda Civic, operated by Sylas Moore Fain (28) of Dillard, collided with Porter in the roadway.  Porter sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. He has ties with Yuba City, California and Pittsburg, California, and is most likely headed that direction. His truck is unique, please share. Medford Police Kidnap / Assault / Robbery On January 11th, 2022 Medford Police officers began investigating a brutal assault of a 31 year old woman. The victim suffered several facial injuries to the point her eyes were swollen shut, and had various head injuries which required stitches and staples. She had other bodily injuries as well. The woman was found by a passerby, walking on foot, asking for help, in a remote section of Salt Creek Road, at about 7:30 p.m. Detectives assumed the investigation and determined the victim had been at acquaintances’ house in the 3500 block of Cherry Lane, in Medford on January 11th, 2022. While at the home, another woman named Jordan Broussard, 18 years old, began assaulting the victim. The assault continued for several minutes. Broussard and an accomplice, Michael Hambleton, 28 years old, who lives at the residence, then forced the victim into her own vehicle against her will. HILLSBORO TEACHER PLEADS GUILTY IN CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CASE

District Attorney's Office HILLSBORO, Ore.- On January 12, 2022, on the second day of his trial, Brett Howard Cunningham, age 41, pleaded guilty to first degree invasion of personal privacy and first degree encouraging child sexual abuse. Deputy District Attorneys Chris Lewman and Rayney Meisel prosecuted the case against Mr. Cunningham before Washington County Circuit Court Judge Andrew Erwin.  The defendant was employed as a kindergarten teacher at Orenco Elementary School in Hillsboro, Oregon when the Oregon Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a cybertip that he was accessing child pornography from his Multnomah County home.   In May of 2020, Portland police executed a search warrant on the house and seized the defendant’s devices. He admitted they would find four images and videos depicting child pornography but claimed they were not for sexual purposes. Previous incidents have occurred at Riverside Park and Baker Park involving both geese and ducks shot and disposed of in a garbage bag. ONLINE SEXUAL CORRUPTION OF A CHILD

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On January 6, 2022, the Josephine County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with Oregon State Police, Grants Pass Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, United States Marshals Service, and Homeland Security, conducted a search warrant in the 9000 block of Takilma Road regarding online luring of a minor and an illegal marijuana operation. Meyer intended to meet a minor child for the purposes of a sexual relationship and to deliver marijuana to different minor.  Based on information obtained during the investigation Meyer was taken into custody and a search warrant was executed at his residence.  Christopher Meyer was arrested and lodged in the Josephine County Jail on the above listed charges. At the time of this press release, the investigation is ongoing, and no further details are being released at this time.
