DRUG ARREST - MULTIPLE DRUG TYPES

Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) Detectives with the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) made another drug arrest on Wednesday, October 26th.  Detectives had interest in 39 year old Sutherlin resident Caleb Plueard, due to his alleged involvement in illegal drug activity, including his alleged involvement in recent fentanyl overdoses.     Plueard was seen leaving a residence in the 1300 block of Airway Avenue in Sutherlin.  A traffic stop was initiated by a Douglas County Sheriff's deputy, at which time Plueard was contacted by DINT detectives.  Drug detection K-9 “Trapper” was applied to Plueard's vehicle and he alerted, giving his handler the signal that he detected the odor of narcotics coming from inside the vehicle.     A search of Plueard's vehicle revealed a plethora of controlled substances to include the following: 421 grams of suspected methamphetamine (almost 1 pound) 2.4 grams of suspected cocaine 6.6 grams of suspected heroin 5.3 grams of fentany

Beaverton Man Arrested for Homicide

Beaverton Police Dept. At 4:18 PM on October 27, 2022, Beaverton police officers were dispatched to 12790 SW Tupelo Ln. on the report of an assault involving a sword. Upon arrival, Beaverton police officers located 73-year-old Audrey Schaff suffering from multiple stab wounds. Schaff was later pronounced dead at the scene.    Preliminary investigation indicated that Schaff was murdered. Schaff’s biological son, 41-year-old Jason Lee Nye, who lives with his mother at the Tupelo address and who was at the home when police arrived, was taken into custody for the death of his mother.    Investigators located two bladed weapons which they believe were used in the murder. One is described as a knife and the other a sword style weapon.   Nye was lodged in the Washington County Jail for Murder in the 2 nd  Degree. He will a be arraigned today in a Washington County Circuit Court.

Medford Police Dept. The suspect in Thursday’s armed barricade incident has been identified as 37-year-old Daniel Ryan Tiger.  Tiger is currently being lodged in the Jackson County Jail on the following charges: Elude- in vehicle Elude - on foot Recklessly Endangering Reckless Driving Hit & Run Felon in Possession of a Firearm Unlawful use of a Weapon Criminal Mischief I Warrant On Thursday, October 27 at 7:20 AM, officers responded to a report of a possible stolen vehicle in the area of Crater Lake Avenue and Jackson Street. The suspect was reported to be armed with a handgun. Patrol officers spotted the vehicle and made a traffic stop in the parking lot of Walgreen's on West Main Street. Tiger provided false information to the officers and as the second officer arrived on scene, he rammed a patrol car and fled in the vehicle. Tiger crashed the vehicle at the intersection of North Ross Lane and Rossanley Drive and fled on foot into the industrial complex near Lars Way and Bria

Man vs. Machine Extrication

Portland Fire & Rescue Portland Fire performs a specialized extrication at a local supermarket Shortly after 4 PM (10/27/22) members of the technical rescue team of PF&R Stations 1 & 12 along with the crew of Truck 25 and C4 were called out to a local supermarket in the 3900 of SE Powell to remove the hand of an employee from a small meat tenderizer. Four fingers of the victim’s right hand were entrapped up to the second knuckle. The team used an angle grinder to make a relief cut of the machine at which point they were able to force the machine open and extract the victims hand. The victim was transported to the OHSU trauma center and is currently under their care.

Oregon State Police On October 25, 2022, around 6:30 P.M., OSP Fish & Wildlife Trooper received a report of two elk being shot within 100 yards of the freeway, near milepost 84, I-5 south, Glendale, OR.   The two elk, one bull and one cow, were in an open field on the west side of the freeway. The bull was not touched, but the cow was processed with the edible portions taken. This indicates that the subject (s) were in the area for a lengthy amount of time. It is believed the subject (s) used a flashlight in the field between 7:00 P.M October 25 and 7:00 A.M. October 26. U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon PORTLAND, Ore.—A Georgia man was sentenced to federal prison today for using stolen identities to fraudulently obtain Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and attempt to purchase a luxury vehicle worth nearly $80,000. Mackenzie Braswell Sherman, 38, was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison and one year of supervised release. According to court documents, in April 2019, Sherman used an adult victim’s personal information to submit an application to the Oregon Department of Human Services (Oregon DHS) for SNAP benefits funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Sherman’s application was approved and he received $1,152 in food stamps. Later, in October 2019, Sherman attempted to use the personal information of a second adult victim to obtain an auto loan to purchase a Mercedes Benz valued at nearly $80,000. FATAL CRASH ON ALPINE ROAD

Benton Co. Sheriff's Office CORVALLIS, Ore.  – On Thursday, October 27, 2022, around 11:48 a.m., the Benton County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on Alpine Road near Bellfountain Road.  The investigation revealed a 2005 Subaru traveling East on Alpine Road entered into a construction zone occupied by the Benton County Road Department. The Subaru failed to stop for the flagger who at the time was holding a stop sign.  The Subaru crashed into a parked Benton County Road Department dump truck inside the construction zone. The driver of the Subaru sustained fatal injuries.  The identity of the driver is being held until next of kin can be notified.  The Benton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Monroe Fire Department, Corvallis Fire Department, and Benton County Road Department.  If anyone has any information regarding the crash, please contact Detective Iverson at 541-766-6858 or by email at  david.iverson@co.benton.or.us .  

TWO CALIFORNIA DRUG TRAFFICKERS SENTENCED TO FEDERAL PRISON

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon EUGENE, Ore.—The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon announced today that two California men have been sentenced to federal prison for trafficking large quantities of methamphetamine and heroin from California to Oregon. Jack Scott Lewis, 36, of Los Angeles, was sentenced today to 120 months in federal prison and five years’ supervised release. Previously, on June 6, 2022, Lewis’s accomplice, Michael Panoosi, 56, also of California, was sentenced to 210 months in federal prison and five years’ supervised release. According to court documents, in December 2019, detectives from the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) began investigating Panoosi, a California-based drug dealer, for transporting large quantities of methamphetamine from California to Oregon for distribution and sale in Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, and Lane Counties. Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, Ore. - On October 27, 2022, Grants Pass Police Detectives arrested Robert Anthony Wass, 75, of Eagle Point, for First Degree Online Sexual Corruption of a Child and Luring a Minor. Wass allegedly committed these crimes involving a 15-year-old female juvenile within the City of Grants Pass over the past two days. Wass was arrested by detectives and lodged in the Josephine County Jail. The Grants Pass Police Department is asking anyone with further information to please contact Grants Pass Police Detectives at 541-450-6260 and reference case #2022-47347. This investigation is ongoing, and further details cannot be released.

Sheriff's Office DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore.  - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is currently conducting a missing persons investigation into the whereabouts of a California couple known to have been passing through Douglas County.  Charles and Kathleen Waller were known to have been in the Glide area on or about October 23, 2022. Charles, age 81, and Kathleen, age 79, were reportedly driving to their home in Boulder Creek, California in a 2017 Ford Four Winds Motorhome bearing California license plate 8HWX240. The Wallers are typically in communication with family members on a daily basis, but have not been heard from since October 23rd when they stated they were approximately 45 minutes north of the Oregon-California border. He was found unharmed and returned safely to his family.  Deputies would like to thank all community members for their help in searching for Garza. ____________________________________________ On Thursday, October 27, 2022, at approximately 1:00 a.m., deputies responded to a missing person call in Gaston. Deputies learned that at about 1:00 p.m on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, 74-year-old Epifanio Garza told family members he was going hunting alone but did not return. WASHINGTON COUNTY WIN TEAM SEIZES DRUGS AND CASH

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office On Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at about 7:00 a.m., Washington County Westside Interagency Narcotics (WIN) investigators simultaneously executed eight search warrants at various locations in Washington, Clackamas, and Multnomah Counties. The warrants were obtained as a result of several months of investigation into a drug trafficking organization (DTO) operating in the metro area. With the assistance of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Negotiation Team (TNT), investigators entered the various locations. They seized $420,761 in cash, 3 pistols, 3 rifles, 2 pounds of heroin, 2 pounds of fentanyl powder, 5 pounds of methamphetamine, 12.7 grams of cocaine, and 11.5 pounds of M30 pills totaling more than 52,000 pills. One arrest was made as a result of the warrant service, and more arrests are anticipated. MEDFORD MAN SENTENCED TO FEDERAL PRISON FOR POSSESSING THOUSANDS OF IMAGES OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon MEDFORD, Ore.—A Medford man previously convicted for raping a child was sentenced to more than 13 years in federal prison today for possessing 4,500 photos and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children, including infants and toddlers. Jacob Lee Holt, 46, was sentenced to 162 months in federal prison and a life term of supervised release. According to court documents, Kik Messenger, an instant messaging mobile application, reported that one of its users had shared child sexual abuse material. Special Agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) traced the Kik account to Holt and determined that some of the images he shared depicted child victims previously identified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). In March 2018, investigators served a federal search warrant on Holt’s Medford residence. Douglas Forest Protection Association   On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at approximately 1:35 pm, crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) and Riddle Fire Protection District responded to an escaped debris pile burn located on Council Creek Rd., in Riddle, OR. Upon arrival, rural responders took immediate action and had the 2-acre fire quickly extinguished. DFPA performed mop-up and had the area cleared by 3 pm.  This is a great reminder that even though the Douglas District is no longer in fire season, fires can still happen. Please exercise caution when burning yard debris or when using fire in the woods.   When burning yard debris, make sure to have an adequate fire trail around the pile before ignition begins and have fire tools and a water supply at the burn site.  Debris piles should never be left unattended and should be fully extinguished before leaving the area.  If a debris burn escapes containment, the responsible party may be held FINANCIALLY responsible fo

Serial burglary suspect arrested in string of Bend, Redmond burglaries

Bend Police Dept.   On Monday, Oct. 24 at approximately 9:41 p.m., Bend Police responded to a report of a burglary in the 63000 block of Nels Anderson Road in Bend. The business owner was watching the suspect inside the business on video surveillance. Officers were in the area and responded to the burglary in progress. Laura Marie Zachary, a 30-year-old Bend resident, ran from the scene. After a short foot pursuit, officers took Zachary into custody without incident.   Between Sept. 15 and Oct. 24, Bend Police Department investigated multiple commercial burglaries with the same methods. The suspect in these burglaries was identified as a white female who often wore face coverings.  The Redmond Police Department was also investigating nine burglaries using the same methods which occurred between Oct. 15 and Oct. 19. Assistance Requested to Identify Attempted Carjacking Suspect

Grants Pass Police Department   On October 24, 2022, at approximately 11:33 AM, Grants Pass Police Officers responded to “Udders Ice Cream and Gelato,” at 1893 NE 7 th  Street, to the report of an attempted carjacking.  It was discovered that a white male adult used force against a 66-year-old female resident of Grants Pass when he attempted to physically remove her from her vehicle by pulling on her arm as she was seated in the driver’s seat.  The male suspect also attempted to grab the keys for the vehicle.  Two male citizens came to the aid of the female victim which prevented the furtherance of the suspect’s attack.  The female victim sustained minor injuries due to the attack.  The male suspect was described as a white male adult in his 20’s.  The male had short brown hair, a slender build, and was wearing blue jeans, boots, and a dark hooded sweatshirt from Diamond Lake.  The back of the sweatshirt read, “To Fish or Not to Fish.”  After an extensive area search, the male suspect

A Eugene Police DUII Traffic Enforcement Results in Largest Fentanyl Seizure in Department History

Eugene Police Department At around 10:49 p.m. on October 19, a Eugene Police officer was working impaired driver and traffic enforcement for his assigned shift and responded to the intersection of E. 11th Avenue and High Street for a welfare check on a driver slumped over the steering wheel at the stop light. The driver, Andre Lavell Johnson, age 42, of Portland, was found unconscious and police pinned the vehicle in before rousing him. When he woke up, Johnson attempted to start the vehicle and refused commands to stop. He was removed from the vehicle and during this officers spotted a firearm near his feet. Officers also saw bags containing pills, later determined to be fentanyl, matching the description of currently circulating counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl.  A search incident to arrest found Johnson had a large amount of cash, multiple phones.
