FATAL VEHICLE CRASH

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office On 05/04/2023 at about 8:23pm deputies from the Lane County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Peninsula Rd. near Big Fall Creek Rd.  A passenger in the vehicle was found to be deceased and the driver had fled on foot.  Initial investigation reveals that a silver Nissan Pathfinder left the roadway and struck a utility pole.  Deputies, along with assistance from the Oregon State Police searched for the driver and he was located a short distance away.   The driver was also found to have been injured and he was transported to an area hospital. FATAL CRASH - HWY 242 - COOS COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Thursday, May 4, 2023, at approximately 00:34 A.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on HWY 242, near milepost 14, in Coos County.   The preliminary investigation indicated an eastbound Chevy Colorado, operated by Chasiree Ramy Mahmoud (38) of Powers, left its lane of travel for an unknown reason. The vehicle operator overcorrected causing the vehicle to roll onto its passenger side.  The operator was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown around the inside of the vehicle.  The operator (Mahmoud) was determined to be deceased at the scene.   OSP was assisted by Powers Police, Myrtle Point and Powers EMS, and ODOT. FOUR YEAR OLD BOY DIES, FATHER BOOKED ON MURDER CHARGE

Portland Police Bureau On Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 12:32p.m., East Precinct officers responded to an emergency call to assist paramedics in the 6400 block of Northeast Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in the Piedmont Neighborhood. The young child had suffered significant trauma and was unconscious. He was transported by ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital where, despite lifesaving efforts by medical staff, he died of his injuries. The Portland Police Bureau Child Abuse Team (CAT) and Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to investigate. The child’s father, Marquavious D. Ware, 19, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Mistreatment in the First Degree. Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office ROSEBURG, Ore.  – A Roseburg man has died while in custody at the Douglas County Jail. On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at approximately 7:19 am, a deputy discovered that a male adult in custody (AIC) was not responsive. Deputies summoned emergency services, who confirmed the AIC, identified as 45-year-old Thomas Phillip Vorhis of Roseburg, was deceased.  Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin requested the assistance of the Roseburg Police Department, an outside agency, to investigate the circumstances of the death. An autopsy will be performed on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office in Clackamas. Currently there are no indications of foul play, although the investigation is ongoing.   “I extend my sincere condolences to Mr. Vorhis’ loved ones,” Sheriff Hanlin said. “Any death that occurs in the Corrections facility is taken seriously and fully investigated. Woman Arrested After Stealing a Vehicle in Curry County and Leading Police on a High-Speed Pursuit South of Bandon

Coos County Sheriff's Office On May 5th, 2023, at 6:50 a.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report of a stolen pick-up from Curry County, last seen traveling northbound on U.S. Hwy 101. The truck was described as a red Dodge 3500. The vehicle was reported to be owned by a logging company and contained several thousand dollars of equipment and a firearm. After receiving this information, Deputy H. Francis began patrolling southbound on U.S. Hwy 101 to attempt to locate the stolen pick-up. Deputy Francis passed by the vehicle near Dew Valley Ln south of Bandon. Deputy Francis turned her patrol vehicle around and attempted to perform a traffic stop of the stolen vehicle.  The vehicle failed to yield, and Deputy Francis became involved in a vehicle pursuit with the stolen vehicle. The pick-up turned onto Two Mile Lane and continued westbound at approximately 80 miles per hour while Deputy Francis followed with her emergency lights and siren activated.  The

Fatal Crash - Interstate 5 - Jackson County

Oregon State Police On Sunday, April 30, 2023, at approximately 3:00 A.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5, near milepost 1, in Jackson County.   The preliminary investigation indicated a Chevrolet Venture, occupied by Javier Leon Guerrero (55) of Sacramento (CA), was parked on the shoulder of the highway with an occupant sleeping inside.  A Volvo commercial motor vehicle and trailer, operated by Rajabov Shokhrukh (31) of La Mesa (CA), was traveling on the northbound shoulder of Interstate 5 when it crashed into the back of the parked Chevrolet.     The occupant of the Chevrolet (Guerrero) was declared deceased at the scene.  The operator of the CMV was uninjured.    The cause of the crash is under investigation.   OSP was assisted by Jackson County STAR, Ashland PD, Ashland Fire, Cal Fire, and ODOT. GRESHAM POLICE SEARCHING FOR MISSING ENDANGERED ADULT

Gresham Police Dept Gresham, Ore.— Gresham Police is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 54-year-old woman who suffers from a mental health condition and is missing her medication. Penny Marie Crum left home to go for a walk at 8:50a.m., on April 26, in the 177 hundred block of northeast Halsey St, and did not return home. Penny sometimes uses the name Angela and is known to refer to herself in the third person.   Penny is described as a White female who is approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds. She has brown eyes and black hair, which was in a bun when she was last seen. Skeletal Remains Found in Rural Area, Detectives Investigating Suspicious Death

Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office   UPDATE 5/2/23: The skeletal remains discovered last month have been positively identified and next-of-kin has been notified. The decedent is Kris Heywood, 77, of Ashland. She was reported missing in September of 2022 to Ashland Police Department (APD case 22-1874). Our condolences to her friends and family. Her remains were located in a remote location near the 3700 block of Old Highway 99 south of Ashland. Detectives Investigating After Human Hair, Tissue Found Near Cold Case Site

Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office RUCH, Ore. – Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) detectives have reopened the cold case investigation into the 2013 disappearance of Stephanie Anne Warner. Investigators believe Stephanie was the victim of homicide and her body was left in the Applegate area. Monday afternoon, what is believed to be human hair and tissue were found near her residence in the 9000 block of Highway 238. Investigators sent the tissue to the Oregon State Police Forensics Laboratory to obtain a positive scientific identification.   JCSO detectives and Search & Rescue (SAR) personnel are conducting an evidence search in the area of China Gulch Road, near where Stephanie lived. The hair was initially found by a mushroom hunter who called in the suspicious remains.   Stephanie was last seen on July 4, 2013, leaving the Fourth of July Parade in Ashland around 4:30 pm with her boyfriend, Lennie Ames. Firefighters Contain Fire At Best Western In Eugene

Eugene Springfield Fire Eugene Springfield Fire crews responded to a second high risk multiple occupancy structure fire in as many days.   On Tuesday afternoon a  fire was reported in the Best Western hotel located at  1655 Franklin Blvd in Eugene .  Arriving firefighters found fire in the basement workshop of the hotel.  Basement fires are risky on their own, when coupled with a high occupancy building the risk is elevated.  Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the workshop that was situated in a large unfinished basement area and limit risk from nearby flammable gasses.  There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters and the cause is under investigation. MAJOR CRIMES TEAM INVESTIGATING GREEN DISTRICT HOMICIDE

Sheriff's Office ROSEBURG, Ore.  - The Douglas County Major Crimes Team is investigating the homicide of a Roseburg woman who died Sunday in the Green District.  On Sunday, April 30, 2023, around 2:30 p.m., 9-1-1 dispatchers were notified of a reported homicide at a residence in the 4000-block of Carnes Road in the Green District. Deputies responded along with officers from the Winston and Roseburg Police Departments. Deputies detained a man at the scene, later identified as 45-year-old William James Tiemann of Roseburg. Upon entering the residence, deputies located 52-year-old Roseburg resident Tonya Cathleen Ball, who had suffered fatal injuries.  Tiemann was later booked into the Douglas County Jail on a charge of Second-Degree Murder. The Douglas County Major Crimes Team is investigating the homicide, with the Sheriff's Office assigned as the lead investigating agency. S.C.I.N.T. Conducts Narcotics Operations in Coos County, Resulting in Drug Seizures

Coos County Sheriff's Office In late April 2023, the South Coast Interagency Narcotics Team (S.C.I.N.T), Josephine County Narcotics Team (R.A.D.E), Douglas County Narcotics Team (D.I.N.T), Coos County Parole and Probation, and local law enforcement agencies conducted multiple narcotic operations in the Coos County area.    Investigators worked for several days to identify multiple drug suppliers in our area and surrounding areas. However, due to the sensitive nature, most of the information will not be released as there are ongoing investigations into these dealers.  This operation, spearheaded by (S.C.I.N.T), removed over 1000 Fentanyl pills and over ½ ounce of methamphetamine from the streets of Coos County.  It is challenging to remove these substances from our streets within the confines of the current laws in Oregon. ATTEMPT TO APPREHEND SUSPECT IN ATTACKS ON POLICE ENDS IN OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING

Salem Police Department Salem, Ore.  —  Just before 6:00 a.m. this morning, May 1, Salem Police officers were attempting to apprehend a person a person of interest sought in two incidents of shooting at law enforcement officers on Sunday, April 30.  A Salem Police officer shot the suspect during the attempt to arrest him. The man was provided immediate medical attention prior being transported to Salem Health where he is currently being treated. No officers were injured during the incident. The names of the suspect and the officers involved will not be released at this time. The Marion County  Law Enforcement Officer Deadly Use of Force Plan  under  Senate Bill 111  has been initiated for this incident, and  Oregon State Police  will be conducting the primary investigation in coordination with the  Marion County District Attorney’s Office . Oregon State Police On Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at approximately 2:00 P.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy-101, near milepost 242, in Coos County.   The preliminary investigation indicated a northbound Ford Ranger, operated by Dawn Marie Oviatt (53) of Gold Beach, crossed over the centerline and crashed head-on into a southbound Ford F350 pick-up, operated by Terry Ray Nighswonger (63) of Coquille.    The operator of the Ranger (Oviatt) was declared deceased at the scene.   The operator of the F350 (Nighswonger) was injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment.   OSP was assisted by Millington Fire and ODOT. Gresham, Ore.— Gresham Police is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing  13-year-old. Amar Deweese was last seen at NAFY, 470 SE 165th Ave, at 8:20 a.m., on Friday, April 29. Amar sometimes uses the last name Nylan. He is not known to be suicidal or have any diagnosed mental health issues. He is familiar with TriMet and has been staying at NAFY, due to concerns of  defiant behavior towards his father. Amar is described as a Black male who is approximately 5-feet tall and weighs 160 pounds. He has short black hair and was last seen wearing a white Nike vest, and black pants and white shoes. He has two backpacks he took with him. He does not take any medications. He does not have a cell phone. The body of Charity Lynn Perry of Longview, Washington was found on April 24, 2023, at approximately 1:35 p.m., in a culvert near E Historic Columbia River Highway and NE Tumalt Road. The last known area that Perry was known to frequent was downtown Portland, around SW Washington Street and SW 4th Avenue, at the beginning of March. FATAL CRASH - HWY-569 - LANE COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at approximately 6:03 P.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy-569, near milepost 6.5, in Lane County.   The preliminary investigation indicated a Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Harlin Adair Grondsdahl (63) of Veneta, was merging onto the westbound lanes of Hwy-569 from Hwy 99, when it sideswiped the guardrail.  The operator was thrown against the guardrail and support posts during the crash.   Emergency medical aid was provided by other motorists and first responders, however the operator was declared deceased at the scene.   The on-ramp was impacted for approximately 3.5 hours during the on-scene investigation.     OSP was assisted by the Lane County Sheriff's Office, the Lane Fire Authority, and ODOT. Local Child Exploitation Task Force Investigation Leads to 75-Year Prison Sentence for Illinois Man

Sheriff's Office   BENTON, Ill. – A U.S. District Court judge sentenced an Illinois man to 75 years in federal prison April 17 after he was found guilty of conducting a sextortion scheme on Facebook with multiple victims ranging in ages from 11 to 17 years old.   Michael A. Ferris, 44, of Mill Shoals, Illinois, was convicted by a jury in November 2022 on 25 felony counts of extortion, cyberstalking, and production, distribution, and possession of child pornography. Following his 75-year prison sentence, he will serve the rest of his life on supervised release.   Southern Oregon Child Exploitation Team (SOCET) began the investigation after receiving a report from a local child victim. Through further investigations, SOCET discovered 29 child victims throughout the United States and Canada. SOCET worked with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) to identify the out-of-state victims and build the federal case.   “Combating child exploitation is a team effort and requires
