ARREST MADE IN INFANT DEATH INVESTIGATION

Salem Police Department Salem, Ore.  — A 25-year-old Salem man was arrested yesterday, May 10, as part of an investigation into the death of an infant in the spring of last year. At approximately 7:30 a.m. on April 12, 2022, Salem Police officers and paramedics responded to the call of a six-month-old baby who was unconscious and not breathing normally. Resuscitative efforts by emergency responders were unsuccessful, and the child was pronounced deceased at the scene. A Salem Police Criminal Division investigation resulted in the arrest of the child’s father, Edward William Casian, for the murder of the infant. Casian  was lodged at the  Marion County Jail  on the charge of murder in the first degree. He is due to be arraigned today at 2:30 p.m. at the  Marion County Criminal Court Annex . Animal Rescue- Days Creek Rd. 5/5/2023

Tiller Volunteer Fire District At approximately 18:45 on May 5th Days Creek Fire was notified of a horse that was stuck in a cattle guard. On arrival Days Creek Fire requested that Tiller Fire District be dispatched and to respond with extrication tools. Upon arrival of Tiller Fire units it was determined that 3 of the horses hooves were stuck in the cattle guard and a veterinarian on scene had the horse sedated. People on scene were making efforts to remove the horse but with out success. Tiller Fires extrication tools made quick work of the cattle guard. The horse was removed from the cattle guard without serious injuries. Tiller Fire was able to respond with our brush rig 4880 and a captains rig for a total of 3 volunteers. Tiller fire would like to thank the Gary Sinise Foundation once again for awarding us the grant last year to be able to purchase the new extrication tools. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office asks for the publics assistance in locating a missing woman from Bandon

Coos County Sheriff's Office The Coos County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the publics assistance in locating Shianne Alonzo (24) from Bandon. Shianne was last seen Saturday, May 6 th, 2023, at 2:00 a.m. walking away from her residence on Red Harvest Lane near Bandon.  Shianne does have some mental health considerations and is very depressed. Shianne was last seen wearing a blue jacket, tan work boots, and blue jeans. Shianne has purple hair, with part of her head shaved, and a tongue & nose piercing. Shianne has several tattoos, including paw prints & Chinese lettering on her left arm and a crown & heart tattooed on her right arm. Shianne is from Bandon and is very familiar with the area. California Man Faces Federal Drug Charges After Arranging Sale of 80,000 Fentanyl Pills and 66 Pounds of Methamphetamine

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon PORTLAND, Ore.—A San Jose, California man is facing federal drug trafficking charges after he arranged the sale of approximately 80,000 counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl and 66 pounds of methamphetamine. Oscar Manuel Rosas Gaona, 20, has been charged by criminal complaint with conspiring to possess and possessing with intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine. According to court documents, in April 2023, special agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) arranged to purchase 10,000 counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl for 70 cents per pill. On April 14, 2023, the agents, working in partnership with the Clackamas County Interagency Task Force (CCITF), completed the arranged purchase with Rosas.  As the investigation continued, a second purchase from Rosas was organized and, on April 27, 2023, agents obtained an additional 70,000 fentanyl pills. XAVIER RODRIGUEZ SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS IN PRISON FOR FATAL DUII CRASH

Washington Co. District Attorney's Office HILLSBORO, OREGON: Xavier Denzel Rodriguez, age 19, was sentenced today after pleading guilty to two counts of Manslaughter in the First Degree, two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, and one count of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants for causing a traffic crash that killed two Southridge High School students and critically injured a WCSO deputy. Senior Deputy District Attorney Andrew Freeman prosecuted the case before Judge Brandon Thompson. At the sentencing hearing today, Judge Thompson noted “this was a tragedy that was utterly avoidable,” before imposing a sentence of 25 years in prison under Ballot Measure 11.  The defendant spent the night of April 26-27, 2022, driving around the Portland metro area in a Nissan Altima with four juvenile male passengers, ages 16 and 17, that were all students at Southridge Highschool in Beaverton. WASHINGTON MAN CAUGHT IN CHILD PREDATOR STING

District Attorney's Office Hillsboro, Oregon.  On May 4, 2023 a Washington County jury convicted Longview, Washington resident Michael Anderson, age 41, of Online Sexual Corruption in the First Degree, Luring a Minor and Attempted Rape in the Third Degree.  Mr. Anderson, who went by the online name, “Mr. Wiggles 4U” used an online social media app to solicit sexual intercourse with a 15 year-old child.  Mr. Anderson, described in graphic detail the sex acts he wished to engage in, even after learning the child’s age.  What Mr. Anderson did not know, was that he was actually communicating with a team of detectives with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office conducting a child predator sting.  Mr. Anderson traveled to a Beaverton church parking lot to meet this child, but noticed a detective wearing a vest and drove away, texting “good luck with your sting.”  Judge Brandon Thompson has scheduled Mr. Anderson’s sentencing for June 22, 2023 at 8:30 am.  Under Oregon law,

FATAL VEHICLE CRASH

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office On 05/04/2023 at about 8:23pm deputies from the Lane County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Peninsula Rd. near Big Fall Creek Rd.  A passenger in the vehicle was found to be deceased and the driver had fled on foot.  Initial investigation reveals that a silver Nissan Pathfinder left the roadway and struck a utility pole.  Deputies, along with assistance from the Oregon State Police searched for the driver and he was located a short distance away.   The driver was also found to have been injured and he was transported to an area hospital. FATAL CRASH - HWY 242 - COOS COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Thursday, May 4, 2023, at approximately 00:34 A.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on HWY 242, near milepost 14, in Coos County.   The preliminary investigation indicated an eastbound Chevy Colorado, operated by Chasiree Ramy Mahmoud (38) of Powers, left its lane of travel for an unknown reason. The vehicle operator overcorrected causing the vehicle to roll onto its passenger side.  The operator was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown around the inside of the vehicle.  The operator (Mahmoud) was determined to be deceased at the scene.   OSP was assisted by Powers Police, Myrtle Point and Powers EMS, and ODOT. FOUR YEAR OLD BOY DIES, FATHER BOOKED ON MURDER CHARGE

Portland Police Bureau On Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 12:32p.m., East Precinct officers responded to an emergency call to assist paramedics in the 6400 block of Northeast Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in the Piedmont Neighborhood. The young child had suffered significant trauma and was unconscious. He was transported by ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital where, despite lifesaving efforts by medical staff, he died of his injuries. The Portland Police Bureau Child Abuse Team (CAT) and Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to investigate. The child’s father, Marquavious D. Ware, 19, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Mistreatment in the First Degree. Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office ROSEBURG, Ore.  – A Roseburg man has died while in custody at the Douglas County Jail. On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at approximately 7:19 am, a deputy discovered that a male adult in custody (AIC) was not responsive. Deputies summoned emergency services, who confirmed the AIC, identified as 45-year-old Thomas Phillip Vorhis of Roseburg, was deceased.  Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin requested the assistance of the Roseburg Police Department, an outside agency, to investigate the circumstances of the death. An autopsy will be performed on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office in Clackamas. Currently there are no indications of foul play, although the investigation is ongoing.   “I extend my sincere condolences to Mr. Vorhis’ loved ones,” Sheriff Hanlin said. “Any death that occurs in the Corrections facility is taken seriously and fully investigated. Woman Arrested After Stealing a Vehicle in Curry County and Leading Police on a High-Speed Pursuit South of Bandon

Coos County Sheriff's Office On May 5th, 2023, at 6:50 a.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report of a stolen pick-up from Curry County, last seen traveling northbound on U.S. Hwy 101. The truck was described as a red Dodge 3500. The vehicle was reported to be owned by a logging company and contained several thousand dollars of equipment and a firearm. After receiving this information, Deputy H. Francis began patrolling southbound on U.S. Hwy 101 to attempt to locate the stolen pick-up. Deputy Francis passed by the vehicle near Dew Valley Ln south of Bandon. Deputy Francis turned her patrol vehicle around and attempted to perform a traffic stop of the stolen vehicle.  The vehicle failed to yield, and Deputy Francis became involved in a vehicle pursuit with the stolen vehicle. The pick-up turned onto Two Mile Lane and continued westbound at approximately 80 miles per hour while Deputy Francis followed with her emergency lights and siren activated.  The

Fatal Crash - Interstate 5 - Jackson County

Oregon State Police On Sunday, April 30, 2023, at approximately 3:00 A.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5, near milepost 1, in Jackson County.   The preliminary investigation indicated a Chevrolet Venture, occupied by Javier Leon Guerrero (55) of Sacramento (CA), was parked on the shoulder of the highway with an occupant sleeping inside.  A Volvo commercial motor vehicle and trailer, operated by Rajabov Shokhrukh (31) of La Mesa (CA), was traveling on the northbound shoulder of Interstate 5 when it crashed into the back of the parked Chevrolet.     The occupant of the Chevrolet (Guerrero) was declared deceased at the scene.  The operator of the CMV was uninjured.    The cause of the crash is under investigation.   OSP was assisted by Jackson County STAR, Ashland PD, Ashland Fire, Cal Fire, and ODOT.
