HEAD ON COLLISION IN LA PINE SENDS BOTH DRIVERS TO HOSPITAL

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office On June 19, 2023, just before 8:00 pm, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a report of an injury motor vehicle crash on Huntington Road south of Riverview Drive, in La Pine. Upon arrival deputies rendered aid to Driver #1, who had severe injuries and was entrapped in a silver 2018 Subaru hatchback. Bystanders who heard the crash had already arrived and were rending aid as well. La Pine Fire responded and had to extricate Driver #1 from the vehicle and was transported to St. Charles, Bend by air ambulance due to his injuries. The driver of the Suburban sustained minor injuries and was transported to St Charles, Bend by private party.   As a result of the investigation, it was determined that Vehicle #1 was traveling south on Huntington Rd. when it crossed into the northbound lane. Tri-County First Responders Mass Casualty Drill Scheduled for Wednesday, June 21, 2023

Redmond Police Dept.   Redmond, Oregon-  Law enforcement and Fire agencies from Deschutes County, Jefferson County and Crook County, in cooperation with the Redmond School District, and several other partner groups, are conducting a mass casualty drill at Elton Gregory Middle School, 1220 NW Upas Ave, Redmond, OR, on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.  Roadways in the area will be closed starting at 7:00 AM, with limited access granted to residents and businesses directly affected by the closure of NW Upas Ave between NW 10th Street and NW 15 th  Street.  Notifications to affected residences and businesses were made last week, and reader boards will be erected in the area advising others.    The purpose of the training is to rehearse the unimaginable, so we and all associated stakeholders can be better prepared in the event an actual mass casualty incident occurs in our community.  During the training, a large first responder presence will be vis...

Coos County father and son arrested after a physical altercation with a woman

Coos County Sheriffs' Office On June 19 th , 2023, around 8:50 pm, the Coos County Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding an assault that had taken place on Kellogg Lane in Coos Bay. Patrol Deputy J. Vinyard responded to investigate.  Upon his arrival, Deputy Vinyard learned that the victim had been attacked and held down by her neck by Christopher Lyon (32) and Jack Lyon (54). The victim had been bit by Christopher Lyon and had her vehicle keys taken. After his investigation, Deputy Vinyard arrested both men. Christopher Lyon was charged with Assault 3-Domestic violence, and Coercion. Jack Lyon was charged with Assault 3, Strangulation, and Coercion. Both men were transported to the Coos County Jail, where they were booked and lodged. They are both being held without bail pending arraignment.

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office ROSEBURG, Ore.  - A 65-year-old man is in custody for the murder of his daughter-in-law on Friday. On Friday, June 16, 2023, shortly before 9:30 a.m., 9-1-1 dispatchers received a report that a woman had been shot at her residence in the 100-block of Adams Loop in the Green District. Deputies and medical personnel arrived on scene to discover 47-year-old Roseburg resident Amy Jo Coder suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center and later transferred to an out of area hospital. Coder succumbed to her wounds on Sunday afternoon. Deputies quickly identified her 65-year-old father-in-law, David Foster Coder of Myrtle Creek as her assailant. He was apprehended and taken into custody within a half hour the initial 9-1-1 call. Roseburg Police Department Conducts Training

Roseburg Police Dept. ROSEBURG, Ore. - The Roseburg Police Department will be holding an in-service training for police officers during Roseburg School District's Summer Break. The training will take place Monday, June 19 th .  The training will be held at the Roseburg High School and officers will participate in scenario based training. Continuing education hours keep officers current with their certification requirements mandated by the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training and to maintain a professional level of service.  In the interest of public notification and awareness, community members should be aware that the scenario based training will look like an active shooter/active threat response. JOHN RICHARD MOVICK SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS IN PRISON IN CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE CASE

Washington Co. District Attorney's Office HILLSBORO, Ore.- On June 8, 2023, Washington County Circuit Court Judge Erik Buchér sentenced John Richard Movick, age 61, to 225 months in prison. On April 10, 2023, a jury found the Defendant guilty of three counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree and Luring a Minor. The jury was hung on two counts of Sodomy in the First Degree and one count of Incest.  Deputy District Attorney Rayney Meisel prosecuted the case against Mr. Movick.  In March of 2021, the victim’s mother contacted the Oregon Department of Human Services after her daughter disclosed sexual abuse committed by Mr. Movick, her stepfather at the time. The victim told investigators of numerous occasions in which the Defendant groomed and sexually abused her between the ages of five and nine years old.  The victim’s mother detailed the toll the abuse took on her daughter in a powerful victim impact statement read during the defendant’s sentencing hearing.  “What ...

FIRE AT TRANSIENT CAMP OFF EAST ANTLER AVENUE, MARKS SECOND IN ONE DAY

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office On June 15, 2023, at approximately 3:30 pm, the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a report of a tree fire near a transient camp off of E Antler Avenue in Redmond, OR.  This area of E Antler Avenue is located approximately 1,000 meters North of Hwy 126 E (Mile Post 2). As Deputies arrived, Redmond Fire Department was already on-scene and had successfully contained and extinguished the fire.  One large Juniper tree was burned from the ground up, approximately (6) feet high.  A small patch of surrounding brush, approximately (30) feet x (15) feet, was also extinguished.   Redmond Fire Department personnel were on scene for approximately (1) hour.  They determined the fire was likely caused by smoldering embers from a nearby transient fire, which they responded to and extinguished, the day prior.

Douglas Co. Fire Dist. No.2 At 12:19 PM Thursday, June 15 th  Douglas County Fire District No.2 and Winston-Dillard fire district responded to a reported field on fire near Little Valley road in the Green District. Multiple callers reported the fire was in a grass field and moving up the hill. The first arriving fire crew confirmed the initial reports and found a riding lawn mower also on fire. Crews made an aggressive attack and kept the fire to approximately one acre in size.  The fire was started by the mowing of dried grass, by the property caretaker. DCFD No.2 responded with 1 fire engine, 1 Brush unit, 1 Water tender, and 1 Command vehicle. WDFD responded with 1 Brush unit. Douglas County Fire District No.2 was also assisted by DCSO, and DFPA.

FATAL CRASH- HWY 138E- DOUGLAS COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Monday, June 12, 2023, at approximately 8:45 A.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 138E, near milepost 64, in Douglas County.   The preliminary investigation indicated a white GMC Sierra, operated by Donald Lee Wade (79) of Roseburg, was traveling eastbound on Hwy 138E when, for unknown reasons, it veered off the right-hand shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle traveled approximately 360 feet down the dirt shoulder of the highway before coming to an uncontrolled rest in the ditch.  The operator of the vehicle (Wade) was pronounced deceased at the scene.   The cause of the crash is still under investigation.   OSP was assisted by Glide Fire, the U.S. Forest Service, and ODOT.

S.C.I.N.T. seizes drugs, firearms, and U.S. currency from a residence near Myrtle Point during a follow-up investigation

Coos County Sheriffs' Office On June 14 th, 2023, at 2:30 p.m., members from the South Coast Interagency Narcotics Team (S.C.I.N.T.) along with Sheriff’s Deputies and Officers from the Community Corrections Department responded to a residence on Lower Norway Road, near Myrtle Point as part of a continuing investigation from earlier in the day. S.C.I.N.T. contacted the homeowner, Donald E. Nickles (52) of Myrtle Point, at the residence. Information gathered during the subsequent investigation resulted in a search of Mr. Nickles residence for narcotics and firearms.  Deputies located (4) ounces of methamphetamine, psilocybin mushrooms, packaging material, scales, a .22 rifle, a shotgun, and just under $1,000 U.S. currency.  All the illicit items were seized from the residence. Nickles is being referred to the Coos County District Attorney’s Office on several charges, including, Unlawful Possession of methamphetamine, Felon in Possessing of a Firearm x2, and Unlawful D...

Coos County Sheriffs' Office On June 11 th , 2023, around 5:17 pm, the Coos County Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding a disturbance between two men involving a shovel and a firearm in the Lakeside Mckays Market parking lot. Coos County Patrol Deputies Z. Smith and M.R. Smith responded to the area.  Deputy M.R. Smith arrived on scene and quickly learned that the suspect who had displayed the firearm had left in a gray 2012 Dodge Ram pick-up truck with an American flag on the rear window. He also learned that the individual in the truck had made the alleged victim fear for his life using the firearm. Deputy M.R. Smith relayed this information to Deputy Smith. Deputy Smith quickly located the truck and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect was now identified as Justin Gauvain (45) of Lakeside, Oregon. During the combined investigative efforts of Deputy Z. District Attorney's Office Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt today announced that a grand jury indicted Brandon Lewis Briscoe, 47, on two charges relating to the  recent shooting death  of a woman in Corbett: Murder in the Second Degree with a Firearm Felon in Possession of a Firearm On June 3, 2023, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call at an RV park located at 37000 E. Historic Columbia River Highway in Corbett. The caller indicated that there had been a domestic disturbance between a man and a woman, that gunshots had been heard, and that the man had left the RV on foot with a gun in his hand. Responding deputies located Briscoe in the parking lot of a nearby fire station and took him into custody; they found his wife deceased in the RV with multiple apparent gunshot wounds. There is no foul play suspected. No further information is being released. TIMELINE AND ACTIVITY: 6/6/23 5:21pm:  Reported missing. Josephine County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue (SAR) units activated and joined deputies in search until 11:00pm. DONALD BIGHAUS SENTENCED IN GRESHAM HIT-AND-RUN CASE

Multnomah Co. District Attorney's Office Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced today that a Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge sentenced Donald Troy Bighaus, 52, to 19 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree and one count of Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver.  The charges stem from an incident on August 3, 2022, at Rosemary Anderson High School in Gresham. Bighaus and the victim encountered one another at the school and engaged in a physical fight. After the fight, Bighaus entered a vehicle and the victim began riding a bicycle away from Bighaus and the vehicle. Bighaus then reversed at a high rate of speed as the victim pedaled away, eventually catching up to him, striking him with the vehicle, and ultimately causing the victim’s death.  Judge Christopher Marshall imposed the 19-year prison sentence Monday. GRANTS PASS DETECTIVES ARREST TWO FOR KIDNAPPING, TORTURE, AND INVOLUNTARY SERVITUDE

Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, Ore. - On Sunday at 5:12 PM, the Grants Pass Police Department received a 911 call from a 22-year-old male claiming to have fled from a residence in the 1500 block of Ben Aire Circle. He had allegedly been forced into involuntary servitude for months by his cousin Eastwood Mohammed Hamman, a 35-year-old male, and Cassie Jo Gudino, a 27-year-old female. Officers located the fleeing victim and assisted with ensuring his safety. Grants Pass Police detectives responded and initiated a full investigation. Detectives determined the male victim had been lured from New York, along with his 19-year-old sister, with promises of freedom and a job. The female victim was reportedly still being held at the residence. Over several months, the suspects allegedly forced the victims to work by using fear of serious physical injury and use of torture, such as burning them with a torch, ice baths, beatings, and starvation. Stolen Vehicle Eludes, Crashes into Rogue River

Jackson County Sheriffs' Office JCSO Case 23-3353 ROGUE RIVER, Ore. - Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) took a stolen vehicle report at 7:20 p.m. in the 100 block of Savage Creek Road in rural Grants Pass. Rogue River Police Department located the truck on Rogue River Highway and the vehicle attempted to elude. The suspect ran from the truck at Whispering Pines RV Park but left it in gear and crashed into the Rogue River. The female suspect is in custody and a tow company is recovering the truck. The suspect gave a false name and will be identified when lodged in the Jackson County Jail. More information to follow.

Coos Bay man arrested on attempted murder after shooting at a vehicle on Catching Slough

Coos County Sheriffs' Office On June 11 th, 2023, at 2:23 a.m. Sgt. J. Clayburn was dispatched to the North Bend Police Department to contact the victim of an assault on Catching Slough Road near Coos Bay, Oregon.  While at the location Sgt. J. Clayburn examined the victim’s vehicle and noticed several bullet holes in the pickup. Sgt. J. Clayburn learned Orion R. Petrie (20) of Coos Bay had fired several rounds at the victim’s pick-up when it left the Catching Slough Road address.  As a result of, Sgt. J. Clayburn’s investigation, he applied for and was granted a search warrant for Mr. Petrie’s residence. Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with Officers from the Coos Bay and North Bend Police, assisted with the service of the search warrant. Medford Police Investigating Shooting at East Medford Park

Medford Police Dept. On early Saturday morning, June 10th, 2023 at 1:20 A.M., the Medford Police responded to report of shots fired in the area of Cedar Links Park in east Medford. Multiple neighbors called in the disturbance and upon police arrival, they located multiple involved subjects and learned that one victim had been transported by private party to a local hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Medford Police detectives responded to the scene and have been working the case throughout the weekend. At this point, detectives are working to identify suspects and track down witnesses and involved vehicles.  Police are aware of multiple photos, videos and narratives that are being shared via social media. Sheriff's Office In the early morning of June 7, 2023, The Westside Interagency Narcotics (WIN) team investigated a potential overdose death of a Washington County resident.  The WIN team was able to identify the source of the narcotics through multiple levels of drug dealers, which culminated in the service of a search warrant at a hotel in the city of Portland with the assistance of the HIDTA Interdiction Task Force (HIT), Portland Police Bureau (PPB), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).  Manuel Velazquez-Estrjo, from Honduras, Jorge Rivera-Nunez, from Honduras, Dennis Palma-Hurbina, from Honduras, and Gretsel Ramos-Balladares, from Honduras, were identified as being involved with the hotel room were taken into custody for federal drug crimes.  Throughout the investigation, more than 6.25lbs of powder testing positive for fentanyl, 4.24lbs of multicolored (rainbow) pills testing positive for fentanyl, 310.5grams of methamphetamine, and $11,707 wer...
