SMALL AIRCRAFT CRASH INTO THE WILLAMETTE RIVER

Benton Co. Sheriff's Office The initial investigation by BCSO determined a 56-year-old male from Eugene was operating his Fenix AirTap Paramotor paraglider when it crashed into the Willamette River. There was one passenger on board the aircraft when the crash occurred.  The 51-year-old male passenger from Eugene was still underwater when first responders arrived and determined to be deceased. The two took off from Irish Bend Park, flew north following the direction of the river, and were traveling back when the aircraft crashed into the Willamette River. Two fishermen on a boat helped rescue the pilot, who was then transported to the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office. Man shooting 12-gauge shotgun toward girlfriend ends with arrest

Coos County Sheriff's Office On July 1, 2023, at 8:03 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a call from a woman stating she had been shot on Merritt Road just south of Coos Bay. Sgt. Slater responded to the location and contacted Grant C. Gulseth (54). Grant admitted to shooting his 12-gage shotgun at his girlfriend in the driveway while forcefully telling her to get off the property.  The victim was located and confirmed Grant fired a single round towards her while telling her to get off the property.   The victim was not injured and had only thought she had been shot after the round was fired.  Grant C. Gulseth (54) was arrested on the charges of menacing and unlawful use of a weapon. Grant was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and remains in custody. 

Crash on Fairview – Sumner Lane under investigation

Coos County Sheriff's Office On July 1, 2023, at 5:30 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 911 call of a vehicle overturned on Fairview – Sumner Lane, which was fully engulfed in fire.  Fairview Fire, Coos Forrest Protective Agency, and Coquille Ambulance personnel responded and quickly extinguished the blaze.  Sgt. Slater with the Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene to investigate the incident. No one was located at the location of the crash, and the case remains under investigation.  Thank you to the Fairview Fire Department and CFPA for their swift response to ensure the fire was contained and extinguished immediately.

Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, Ore. - On Sunday, June 18, 2023, the Grants Pass Police Department received a report of a 15-year-old female juvenile that had been forced into a car the previous night by someone she did not know.  The abduction occurred in the north end of NE 7 th  Street in Grants Pass. The Grants Pass Police Department initiated a full investigation with the assistance of the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office.  Grants Pass Police detectives determined the female victim had been driven out into the Merlin area.  Limited information about the unknown suspect was known at the time of the initial report. Detectives worked tirelessly to find video surveillance from businesses around the area where the victim had been abducted.  Using those videos, along with city cameras and extensive computer research, Detectives were able to establish the suspect to be Mark Dastrup, a 42-year-old resident of Wilderville, Oregon.   As soo...

Myrtle Point woman arrested for arson after a reported structure fire on Valley View Road near Coquille

Coos County Sheriff's Office On June 30 th, 2023, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a call of a fully engulfed structure on Valley View Road near Coquille. Coquille Fire & Police responded immediately.  A short time later, Coquille Fire called for a deputy to respond. Sgt. Slater and Deputy Francis responded to investigate the call along with Coquille Sgt. D. Miller. During the course of the investigation Sgt. Slater identified Sarah Y. Latimer (41) as a person of interest in the fire. After interviewing several witnesses, the homeowner and Mrs. Latimer, she was ultimately arrested on the charge of Arson I.  Sarah Y. SUSPECT IN ASSAULT CASE SOUGHT, PUBLIC ASSISTANCE REQUESTED

Portland Police Bureau On Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 7:04p.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to what was originally reported as a pedestrian struck by a car in the 3800 block of Southeast 52nd Avenue. After first responders arrived, they were told it was actually an assault. Portland Fire & Rescue was on scene before officers, and they notified PPB of the assault and that both of the men involved had already left the area. Officers began searching for the victim. A witness told officers the victim was inside one of the nearby food carts. It took officers several minutes to convince the victim to come out of the food cart to talk with them. Once outside, the officers could see that he was injured. They immediately offered to summon EMS, but he declined. The victim told officers he was delivering food and was attacked. FATAL CRASH - HWY 101 - LANE COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at approximately 12:10 P.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy-101, near milepost 208, in Lane County.   The preliminary investigation indicated a southbound silver GMC Sonoma, operated by Raymond Louis Eby Jr. (35) of Molalla, crossed into the on-coming northbound lane for unknown reasons. The GMC Sonoma collided (offset) head-on with a northbound white Toyota Rav4, operated by Shawna Michelle Coolidge (51) of Florence. As a result of the collision, the GMC Sonoma rolled over and came to an uncontrolled rest on its roof blocking the northbound lane. The GMC Sonoma received heavy front-end damage. The Toyota Rav4 left the roadway after the collision and came to an uncontrolled rest down a small embankment adjacent to the northbound lanes. DRUG DEALER SENTENCED TO MORE THAN 12 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR ROLE IN FENTANYL DEATH OF HILLSBORO MAN

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon PORTLAND, Ore.—A Portland area drug dealer was sentenced to federal prison Wednesday for distributing counterfeit pills containing fentanyl that caused the fatal overdose of a Hillsboro, Oregon man. David Weaver, 40, a Portland resident, was sentenced to 150 months in federal prison and five years’ supervised release. According to court documents, on February 3, 2021, a 25-year-old man was found deceased by his parents at their home in Hillsboro after he consumed a counterfeit Oxycodone pill containing fentanyl. In less than three weeks, law enforcement uncovered a four-person drug distribution chain whose illicit actions led to the young man’s death. Investigators identified Weaver as the person who purchased the deadly counterfeit pills from a drug trafficker who transported them from California to Oregon. Weaver resold the pills to others, including the individuals who supplied the pills to the Hillsboro overdose victim. On February 18...

FATAL CRASH - INTERSTATE 5 - DOUGLAS COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Saturday, June 24, 2023, at approximately 10:20 P.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Interstate 5, near milepost 123, in Douglas County.   The preliminary investigation indicated a black Land Rover Range Rover, operated by Jonnie Leroy Puz Jr. (54) of Roseburg, was traveling south on Interstate 5 in the fast lane when it struck a pedestrian, Betty Hamm (54) of Grants Pass, who was traveling west across the interstate.   The operator (Puz Jr.) of the Land Rover immediately stopped and fully cooperated with the investigation.    The pedestrian (Hamm) was pronounced deceased at the scene.    The roadway was impacted for approximately 3 hours during the on-scene investigation.  The cause of the crash is currently unknown.   OSP was assisted by Roseburg Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, ODOT, and Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office.

DRUG DEALER SENTENCED TO 8 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR ROLE IN FENTANYL DEATH OF YAMHILL COUNTY TEEN

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon PORTLAND, Ore.—An Oregon man was sentenced to federal prison Tuesday for distributing counterfeit pills containing fentanyl that caused the fatal overdose of a Yamhill County teen. Dylan Wilson, 26, of Lafayette, Oregon, was sentenced to 96 months in federal prison and three years’ supervised release. According to court documents, on July 21, 2021, Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the fatal overdose of a 15-year-old in Dayton, Oregon. A search of the victim’s cell phone and an interview with one of the victim’s minor friends revealed that the victim had recently purchased what they thought were Oxycodone pills from Wilson. The victim was not aware that the counterfeit pills, labeled with “M30,” contained fentanyl. A toxicology report later confirmed the victim died of a fentanyl overdose.
