Lane County Sheriff's Office On July 16th at about 6 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting in the 28600 block of W. Hill Road, Lorane. Deputies located a victim at the location who was deceased. Detectives and deputies began searching for the suspect, identified as Ralph William McSperitt, 56, of Lorane.  On July 17th at about 12:30 a.m., McSperitt was located in front of the Lane County Jail. Deputies and Eugene Police officers arrested McSperitt without further incident. He was lodged at the Lane County Jail on a charge of Murder in the 2nd Degree. Additional charges may be added.   The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending next of kin notification. Thanks to the Oregon State Police, Cottage Grove Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Eugene Police Department, and Federal Bureau of Investigation for their assistance on this case. Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, Ore. - On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, members of the Rogue Area Drug Enforcement (RADE) team executed a search warrant in the 500 block of Galice Road in Merlin, Oregon. The target of the investigation, Richard SOUTER (age 61), was located at the residence during the execution of the search warrant.   The residential search warrant revealed approximately a quarter-pound of methamphetamine, 13 firearms, and $110,487 cash believed to be drug proceeds.  Charges for Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine were referred to the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office.   The RADE team is a multi-jurisdictional narcotics task force that identifies, disrupts, and dismantles local, multi-state, and international drug trafficking organizations using an intelligence-driven, multi-agency, prosecutor-supported approach. Eugene Police Department   At 6:58 p.m. on July 12, a loss prevention employee observed a man enter the Fred Meyer store at 60 Division Avenue with a pack around his chest and then try to purchase gift cards using fraudulent means. The man,  33-year-old Andrew Shae Tayborne, had previously been trespassed from the store and is on post-prison supervision for identity theft. When the EPD officer arrived, the employee was able to provide a good description and a photo of Tayborne.  The officer located Tayborne as he was leaving the store’s location.  As the officer followed, he observed Tayborne was looking in his rearview mirror and reaching for something in the backseat. Tayborne pulled over before the officer could initiate a stop and due to these circumstances, the officer called for backup and initiated a traffic stop at Ross Lane and Lone Oak Avenue.    When the officer contacted Tayborne, he detained him for Criminal Trespass and when he went to make th...

Eugene Police Department At 7:30 a.m. on July 12, a Eugene Police officer was working overtime dedicated to park rules enforcement and contacted two people who were camping in a vehicle at Skinner Butte Park, which is prohibited. When he went to contact them, he saw a bag of psilocybin mushrooms and some mason jars with marijuana sitting in plain view.
