Three people die in single vehicle crash on Hwy 126 - Deschutes County

Oregon State Police  On Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at approximately 11:30 A.M. Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Hwy 126 at mp 105.   Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Toyota Venza, operated by Kenneth Vaughn (69) of Redmond, was traveling westbound on Hwy 126 when for an unknown reason it veered off the road and struck large rocks at a driveway access. Kenneth Vaughn and his passengers  Sheryl Vaughn (63) of Redmond and April Vaughn (33) sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased. OSP was assisted by the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, Redmond Fire Department and ODOT.

Portland Police Bureau UPDATE- A man identifying himself as the father of the child has called 9-1-1 reporting his daughter missing. Officers are still looking into the facts surrounding this incident. An updated news release will be pushed out with further information if/when appropriate. The bureau would like to thank community members who gave information and assisted in the search for the parents. On Wednesday August 21, 2019 at 4:15 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to the area of Northeast 28th Avenue and Northeast Prescott Street on a report of an unknown 3-year-old who wandered into the complainant's house. The resident did not recognize the child and was unable to obtain her name.  Officers are on scene and the child is safe. Officers are canvassing the neighborhood for her home. Jury Finds David Scott Houston Guilty in Child Sex Abuse Case

Washington Co. District Attorney's Office HILLSBORO, Ore.- On August 16, 2019, a Washington County jury found David Scott Houston, age 31, guilty of two counts of first-degree sex abuse. Deputy District Attorney Chris Lewman prosecuted the case against Mr. Houston in Judge Andrew Erwin’s courtroom. In May of 2018, a report was filed with the Oregon Department of Human Services alerting authorities to possible neglect and sex abuse involving a young child. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office joined the investigation and began interviewing the victim and her family. A safety plan was created, and the juvenile was removed from the home where she was living at the time of the abuse. The juvenile was interviewed by experts at CARES Northwest where she disclosed Mr. Houston forced her to touch him inappropriately. Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) On Thursday, August 15th, 2019, DINT Detectives arrested 51 year old Eric Nelson, of Sutherlin, on suspicion of multiple drug related crimes.   Detectives contacted Nelson in the 400 block of N Comstock Road in Sutherlin.  A search of Nelson's residence and vehicle revealed a large amount of suspected methamphetamine and heroin, as well as other drug related paraphernalia.   I total, detectives seized over 600 grams of methamphetamine (1.3 pounds), and approximately 100 grams of heroin (3.5 ounces). All of this occurred in close proximity to Sutherlin's West Intermediate School located at 531 N Comstock Rd.  There are additional crimes in Oregon for delivering or manufacturing controlled substances within 1,000 feet of a school.   Nelson was lodged in the Douglas County Jail and has been charged with the following crimes: Unlawful Possession of Methmaphetamine Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine Unlawful Delivery o

Arrests during August 17th Demonstrations

Portland Police Bureau On Saturday, August 17th, 2019, the Portland Police Bureau, in collaboration with fifteen law enforcement partner agencies, handled a series of demonstrations and managed calls for service in the City of Portland over the course of nine hours.  PPB's primary goals for the events were to keep everyone safe, including demonstrators, Portlanders, visitors, and officers and to facilitate everyone's ability to exercise their Constitutional rights of free speech and assembly.  PPB used every available officer today to achieve these goals, and called upon a number of local, state and federal partners to help.  Demonstrators began to arrive downtown at approximately 8:30 a.m. Almost immediately, officers started seizing weapons. Injured Climber Rescued at Smith Rock State Park

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office On 08-16-19 at approximately 2:49 PM, the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office responded to a call at the Smith Rock State Park for an injured climber. The climber was reported to have fallen in the Dihedrals climbing area inside the park.  One Deputy and ten Deschutes County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue volunteers responded to the park along with Redmond Fire and Rescue and State Parks Staff.    The climber, identified as Luke Wilson, 29 years old, Bishop, CA had fallen from the rock face.  He was eventually caught by his climbing protection, but swung hard into the wall impacting with enough force to cause significant injuries to one of his legs.  Wilson was wearing protective equipment and climbing with other climbers who were able to assist him until responders arrived.  Wilson was treated on scene by Redmond Fire and Rescue Paramedics and transported out on the trails by wheeled litter.  He was subsequently transported by ambulanc

Police investigating homicide

Salem Police Dept.   On Sunday, August 18, 2019, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Salem and Keizer police officers responded to the Pine Street Pub, 460 Pine ST NE, on a report of gunshots being fired in the parking lot. When officers arrived they located a male and female victim. Officers provided first aid until the victims were transported to Salem Health for treatment. One of the victims, Jennifer Black, age 40 of Salem, died of her injuries. The other victim is still receiving treatment and no update on his condition is available. Officers set a perimeter around the area for a K-9 search, but were unable to locate the suspect. Detectives responded to the scene and are continuing the investigation throughout the day. Due to the ongoing investigation suspect information will not be released at this time. Police Investigating Homicide Death on NE Wilkes Rd.

Gresham Police Dept Gresham, Ore.— Gresham Police are investigating a suspicious death of an adult man who was found near the intersection NE Wilkes Rd. and NE 181st Ave.  Police were notified about a man down shortly before 7:00 yesterday morning and the East County Major Crimes Team is now investigating this incident as a homicide. Detectives are wanting to talk with anyone who saw or heard anything in regards this incident and are asking witness to call the Gresham Police at 503.618.2719. No other information is available at this time.

UPDATED-Gresham Police Seek Public's Assistance in Search For Missing 12 Year Old Boy

Gresham Police Dept UPDATE- Gresham, Ore - At approximately noon on August 18, police contacted the previously reported missing 12 year old, Dominic, near NE 181/NE Halsey and reunited him with his guardian. Our thanks to everyone who was looking for him. Gresham, Ore.—Gresham Police is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 12-year-old boy who left in the late evening hours of August 17, 2019. Around 11:00 pm, Dominic Guenther left his house on foot and was last seen walking north on NE 196th towards NE Halsey. Dominic is described as a white male, 5-feet-2-inches tall and approximately 130 pounds with dark brown hair and was last seen wearing all dark clothing. He did not take a cell phone or money with him, but he knows how to use public transportation. He has family in the Salem area and may try to go there. Anyone who sees Dominic, or knows where he is, is asked to call 503-823-3333 or 911 in case of emergency.

UPDATE: Marine Incident/Missing Swimmer Located

Sheriff's Office   UPDATE: On Friday, August 16, 2019, Josephine County Search and Rescue divers continued searching the Rogue River near Galice for Jason Briggs with assistance from the Jackson County Marine Division. Around 1:30 PM, the body of Jason Briggs was located and recovered by Search and Rescue personnel. Briggs was located approximately 500 yards downstream from where he was last seen on August 15, 2019. This case will now be turned over to Deputy State Medical Examiner, Dr. James Olson. ORIGINAL DETAILS: On Thursday, August 15th, 2019 at approximately 6:24 PM, the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a missing swimmer in the Rogue River near the Galice Resort. It was reported Jason Briggs, 44 years of age, was swimming across the Rogue River approximately ¼ mile below the Galice Resort. Gresham Police Dept UPDATE- Gresham, Ore.- Shortly after midnight on August 18, 2019, police located Emma and Rabecca, the teen sisters that were reported missing the evening of August 17, 2019, and reunited with their guardian. Gresham, Ore. – Gresham Police is asking for the public’s assistance in locating missing sisters, Rabecca and Emma Elkins. The girls, 13 and 14-years-old respectively, left their northeast Gresham home around noon on Aug. 16, reportedly to connect with a teen they met online. Rabecca is described as having strawberry brown hair, brown eyes, and is approximately 5-feet-6-inches tall and 150 pounds. Emma is described as having strawberry brown hair, brown eyes, and is approximately 5-feet-2-inches tall and 110 pounds.  They may have been headed toward the East Portland Community Center. Missing Swimmer in the Rogue River

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office   On Thursday, August 15th, 2019 at approximately 6:24 PM, the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a missing swimmer in the Rogue River near the Galice Resort. It was reported Jason Briggs, 44 years of age, was swimming across the Rogue River approximately ¼ mile below the Galice Resort. According to friends on scene, Briggs went under water and was not seen again. When friends called 911 from Galice Resort, personnel from the Galice Resort used a raft to start a search along the river. The Sheriff’s Office as well as Rural Metro Fire Department responded and began searching the area for Briggs. Searchers walked the riverbanks and additional personnel searched the water with the Sheriff’s Office marine boat. Search efforts were called off around 9:00 PM and have resumed this morning with assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Josephine County Search and Rescue Team. Motorcyclist dies in crash on Hwy 199 - Josephine County

Oregon State Police On Thursday, August 15, 2019 at approximately 4:34 P.M. Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle crash on Hwy 199 near milepost 38. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Keith Willis (58) of Cave Junction, was traveling south on Hwy 199 when it crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a silver Audi operated by Jose Ortiz Adata (25).  Willis sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.  Ortiz Adata was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. OSP was assisted by EMS and ODOT.

UPDATE: Man Arrested in Toddler's Death

Sheriff's Office EAGLE POINT, Ore. – One person is in custody following an investigation into the death of an Eagle Point toddler.  Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) detectives arrested Russel Brian Darrell Larsen, 25, Thursday on charges related to the death of two-year-old Alivia Rose Allen.  Detectives lodged Larsen in the Jackson County jail on the evening of August 15, 2019.  Charges include first degree manslaughter, first degree assault, and first degree criminal mistreatment.  Bail at lodging was $207,500.  On August 5, 2019, at 3:24 p.m., an Eagle Point Police Department officer was dispatched to a call of CPR in progress at a mobile home park in the 200-block of South Shasta Avenue.  The mother of 2-year-old Alivia had called 911 to report that her daughter was not breathing. New Technology Being Used In 1986 Murder Investigation

Eugene Police Department On June 5, 1986, at approximately 2:42 p.m., Eugene Police and Eugene Fire Medics responded to an apartment at 255 High Street regarding deceased person Gladys May Hensley, age 62, who was located during a welfare check by an apartment employee after she had not been seen for several days. The investigation revealed that the death of Hensley was a murder and that it was likely that she was killed in the early hours on Jun e 4, 1986. Police have not been able to locate the involved suspect, however, similarities in the murder and evidence at the scene connect the suspect with two additional murders, one that occurred in the same month and the other in February, 1988. In August 2000, additional DNA work requests resulted in Hensley`s murder being connected to the June 19, 1986 murder of Janice Marie Dickinson, investigated by the Eugene Police Department, and the February 28, 1988 murder of Geraldine Spencer Toohey, investigated by the Oregon State Police. Telephone Service Outage Affecting 911

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office   DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -  A CenturyLink telephone service outage is affecting approximately 1700 customers in the Sutherlin and Oakland areas. The outage may prevent residents in those areas from dialing 9-1-1 from their landline telephones. The telephone service provider is currently investigating the cause of the outage, and there is no estimated time of repair.  Residents who are affected may be able to dial 9-1-1 from a cellular device in the event of an emergency. Both Sutherlin and Oakland Fire Departments are also staffed with personnel while the issue is being resolved.  Residents wishing to check on the status of the telephone service should contact CenturyLink.

Male Arrested For Luring A Minor: Additional Victims Sought

Beaverton Police Dept. On July 16, 2019 Beaverton Police detectives arrested 61-year-old Gregory Ryder Anderson, a Lake Oswego resident, for Luring a Minor and Online Sexual Corruption of a Child in the First Degree. On July 16, law enforcement officers working in the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force, communicated with Mr. Anderson via a social media application.  Law enforcement officers, posing as a 15-year-old male, agreed to meet Mr. Anderson to engage in sexual activity.  When Mr. Anderson arrived at the agreed upon location, he was arrested by BPD detectives.  Mr. Anderson was taken to Washington County Jail and charged with Luring a Minor and Online Sexual Corruption of a Child in the First Degree. On August 2, evidence in this case was presented to a Washington County Grand Jury.  The Grand Jury indicted Mr. Anderson for the following charges: Online Sexual Corruption of a Child in the First Degree, two counts of Luring a Minor and Attempted Sodomy in the Third Degree.

Commercial Fire and Explosion

Albany Fire Dept. Tangent Rural Fire District and Albany Fire Department responded to a first alarm commercial fire and explosion, August 15, 2019, at 7:53 a.m., at 33992 Seven Mile Lane.  The property is owned by Selmet, Inc., a titanium casting manufacturer located in Tangent Rural Fire District.    The 911 caller reported an explosion in the Foundry Building and subsequent fire.  Over 30 fire crew members responded and were able to extinguish the fire and determine there was no chemical hazard to the employees or the public.  Two Selmet employees were transported by Albany Fire to Albany General Hospital.  One patient was flown by Life Flight to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland.  The patient is listed in critical condition.   Investigators from Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Tangent Rural Fire and the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office are working with Selmet, Inc. to determine cause and origin of the explosion.
