Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On Thursday August 11th, 2022 at the Local Public Safety Coordinating Council meeting (LPSCC), a request was made that we explain and advertise why illegal marijuana that has been seized by law enforcement cannot be sold legally to support/fund law enforcement.  Many of our citizens have been asking this reasonable question in our newspaper’s letters section and elsewhere for some time.  No, we cannot sell seized marijuana to fund law enforcement. Here’s why: Illegal marijuana is very often tainted with toxic chemicals like “Raid foggers,” making the product dangerous to use and a public health concern. Legal marijuana and hemp cultivation operations are subject to inspection by the Oregon Department of Agriculture, Oregon Health Authority and Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission. Testing of the product is mandatory per license/permit regulations.  This is done for good reason. Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office UPDATE 08/22/2022 5:30pm DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore.  - Mr. Garrett has been located outside of the search area. A deputy with the Sheriff's Office has contacted Mr. Garrett who is confirmed to be safe. Out of respect for his privacy and wishes, no additional details will be released.  The Sheriff's Office would like to thank the public for their assistance in this investigation.  Search efforts included ground, vehicle and air assets in conjunction with investigative components of the investigation.  The Sheriff's Office was assisted by Douglas County Search and Rescue, Jackson County Search and Rescue, Oregon State Police, the U.S. Forest Service and Douglas Forest Protective Association.  

TELEPHONE OUTAGE AFFECTING 9-1-1 SERVICE

Sheriff's Office DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore.  - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has been notified of a telephone service outage which may disrupt the ability of residents affected to dial 9-1-1 from their landline telephones. Households within the community of Days Creek and the surrounding area have been identified as being impacted by the service outage. Residents who have cellular telephone service may be able to dial 9-1-1 from their cellular telephone to summon emergency services. At this time, the telephone service provider is unable to provide an estimated time of repair. 

23-YEAR-OLD MAN DIES IN MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT FRIDAY NIGHT

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office ROSEBURG, Ore.  - A motorcycle crash Friday night has claimed the life of a 23-year-old Phoenix man. On Friday, August 20, 2022, at approximately 11:45 pm, 911 dispatchers received a report of a single motorcycle crash in the 5000-block of Sunshine Road. Deputies arrived to find a 2017 Husqvarna 501 Dual Sport dirtbike that had left the roadway after the operator failed to successfully negotiate a left-hand turn. The operator, later identified as 23-year-old Kaulynn Lyle Shreeve of Phoenix, Oregon was thrown from the bike during the crash. Despite lifesaving efforts of bystanders and fire/medical personnel, Shreeve died at the scene. Shreeve was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor. The Sheriff's Office was assisted by Douglas County Fire District #2 and the Douglas County Medical Examiner's Office. 

MISSING PERSON INVESTIGATION - RICK GARRETT

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office UPDATE 08/20/2022 2:30pm DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore.  -  Search efforts continue for 63-year-old Rick Leroy Garrett who was reported missing on Thursday, August 18, 2022. Garrett messaged a friend through Facebook that he was injured and needed help near Deer Lick Falls in the Tiller area. Search crews have searched the area and have been unable to locate him as of the time of this post. He was last known to be in a tan/gold colored 1999 GMC Sierra Extended Cab pickup. The pickup has a lumber rack, silver toolbox and a Deadhead sticker.  An actual photograph of the pickup has been obtained and is attached to this release. Garrett is 5'9" tall, 170 lbs, with gray hair and blue eyes. His clothing description is unknown. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 541-440-4471.

SEVERAL DINT ARRESTS THE PAST MONTH

Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) Throughout the past 30 days the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) has seized substantial quantities of methamphetamine and heroin. Additionally, DINT has served several search warrants on illegal marijuana growing operations operating in Douglas County.  22-0077 - On July 18, 2022, DINT Detectives were conducting an operation in Oakland, OR. Detectives contacted 45 year old Charity Allen of Myrtle Creek and 43 year old Jeremy Young near the intersection First and Locust. Canine Trapper was deployed on both Allen and Young’s vehicle, where he alerted to the presence of controlled substances. Allen and Young were found to be in possession of approximately 17 ounces (1.06 lbs) of methamphetamine. Young was lodged at the Douglas County Jail for Attempted Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine and Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine. HIKER DIES AFTER FALL IN THE COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE

Multnomah Co. Sheriff's Office Around 1:15 p.m., on Friday, August 19, dispatchers received a report that a female hiker suffered a head injury after falling near Wiesendanger Falls in the Columbia River Gorge. As firefighters from the Corbett Fire District and deputies from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office were en-route, dispatchers provided an update that the injuries were life threatening and that bystanders had started CPR. Corbett firefighters deployed from the Multnomah Falls Lodge and reached the hiker, approximately 1.3 miles from the trailhead. Firefighters pronounced the hiker deceased. The  Multnomah County Search & Rescue  team has been activated to help the Medical Examiner’s Office recover of the hiker. The woman was hiking with a group of friends on the Multnomah Falls-Larch Mountain Trail, #441. It is estimated the hiker feel approximately 100 feet. TIPNW  was dispatched to provide emotional support and mental health resources for those impacted by the hike

ODF Southwest Oregon District Oregon Department of Forestry and Bureau of Land Management officials are sadden to announce the death of 25-year-old wildland firefighter Logan Taylor of Talent, Oregon.  On Thursday, August 18, 2022, shortly after 4:00 p.m., dispatchers received information regarding a wildland firefighter that was critically injured after being struck by a tree on the Rum Creek Fire, located north of Galice. Jackson County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue (SAR) immediately deployed a helicopter and personnel to the fire and airlifted Taylor out of the mountainous terrain to an awaiting Mercy Flights helicopter, which transported him to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford. Despite lifesaving efforts by firefighters and EMS personnel assigned to the fire and responding medical staff, Taylor succumbed to his injuries. SUSPECT INDICTED FOR SEX CRIME CHARGES

Sherwood Police Dept. On August 19, 2022 Harrison V. Rummerfield, age 25, was indicted by a Washington County Grand Jury on Felony crimes involving a female adult. The victim and suspect were known to each other. Two counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree (Felony) Commercial Sex Solicitation (Misdemeanor)  The victim reported the sexual assault in the morning hours of August 8 th , 2022. After the Sherwood Police Department conducted an investigation, Mr. Rummerfield was taken into custody and was lodged at the Washington County Jail where he’s currently being held. The case was presented to the Washington County Grand Jury. The preliminary investigation indicated that Mr. Rummerfield lured the victim to a hotel under false pretenses. While there, the suspect sexually assaulted and attempted to offer the victim money for sex, which the victim refused.   Investigators believe Mr. Rummerfield may have used these luring tactics with other victims. Douglas County Sheriff's Office Have you seen him? 63-year-old Rick Leroy Garrett is #missing and reported to a friend that he was injured and needed help near Dear Lick Falls in the Tiller area. Search crews have searched the area and have been unable to locate him.  He was last known to be in a 1999 GMC Sierra Extended Cab pickup. UMATILLA COUNTY MAN FACES FEDERAL CHARGES FOR ARMED ROBBERY AT WILDHORSE RESORT AND CASINO

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon PORTLAND, Ore.—A Umatilla County, Oregon, man is facing federal charges for robbing the Wildhorse Resort and Casino on the Umatilla Indian Reservation at gunpoint and brandishing a firearm. Javier Francisco Vigil, 51, has been charged by criminal complaint with committing a Hobbs Act robbery and using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. According to court documents, in the early afternoon on August 17, 2022, Vigil is alleged to have entered the Wildhorse Casino, walked straight to the cashier cage in the gaming area, and handed the cashier a note demanding $1 million. Vigil then drew a holstered pistol, pointed it at the cashier, and threatened to “bathe everyone in blood.” After being given nearly $70,000 in cash, Vigil exited the casino, pointed his firearm at a responding tribal police officer, and discharged at least one round. BINET and the Oregon State Police Drug Enforcement Team make an Illegal Marijuana Bust- Klamath County

Oregon State Police On August 17, 2022, the Basin Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Team (BINET) and the Oregon State Police Southwest Region Drug Enforcement team, assisted by the Klamath County Sheriff's Office and the Klamath Falls Police Department, served a search warrant on a large-scale illegal marijuana growing operation at Ferguson Mountain Rd. and Tionarack Circle, near Beatty. After the operation was concluded, a total of 6,916 illegal marijuana plants were seized and destroyed.  A percentage of the illegal plants had already been harvested and were in various stages of being processed.  Also located and seized were two semi-automatic rifles, neither of which had serial numbers.  Both firearms were loaded with high-capacity magazines and found near multiple, loaded magazines.   The illegal operation involved approximately forty greenhouses and the use of an estimated one million gallons of water, which was pumped from an illegal well on-site during the summer growing sea

SCAMMERS IMPERSONATING SHERIFF'S OFFICE EMPLOYEES

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office We have received recent reports of a telephone scam in our community.  The scammers commonly identify themselves either verbally, by text or by email as employees of the Lane County Sheriff’s Office. Often times the scammers identify themselves using the names of real Sheriff’s Office employees and provide a fraudulent number for the victim to call back. When the victim calls the provided number they are directed into a phone tree system that is designed to sound like an official Lane County phone tree. The scammers will then commonly make claims that there are warrants, missed jury duty, or unsettled legal business that involve the victim or someone the victim knows and ask for personal or financial information.  The Lane County Sheriff's Office will never ask for money, awards, or compensation of any type over the telephone.  If you are contacted by someone claiming to be a Lane County Sheriff's Office employee and you think you are being scammed

TWO GRANTS PASS MEN ARRESTED FOR ARMED ROBBERY

Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, Ore. - On August 11, 2022, at 12:04 AM, Grants Pass Police were called to the scene of an armed robbery at O’aces, located at 772 Rogue River Hwy. It was determined a suspect armed with a pistol and an accomplice lookout entered the business, demanded money at gunpoint, and fled the scene with cash. There were no injuries. Grants Pass Police Detectives conducted a follow-up investigation with assistance from the public as well as assisting law enforcement partners. The suspects of the robbery were identified as Kevin Lee Jones, 34, and Michael Ray Spliethof Jr., 31, both of Grants Pass.  On August 18, 2022, Grants Pass Police Detectives located and arrested Jones while driving in the City of Rogue River. Shortly after the arrest, Grants Pass Police SWAT and Detectives served a search warrant at the home of Jones and Spliethof on SE Tobin Court in Grants Pass causing the need to divert traffic on East Park Street. Tenmile Rural Fire District Our units are currently engaged on the Quiet Mountain Fire since being dispatched shortly after 8PM tonight. This fire is near Camas Mountain. Tenmile Fire is assisting DFPA units along with Camas Valley RFD, this is our 3rd fire of the day in and near Tenmile.  The foward spread of the Quiet Mountain Fire has been stopped, and crews are currently working to place hand lines and hose lays around the fire. More resources are being ordered. The scene will be turned over to DFPA within the coming hours. Cause of fire under investigation!

Sheriff's Office arrests armed serial purse-snatcher suspected in over 40 cases; tips, additional victims sought

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Please reference CCSO Case # 22-018503 On Aug. 15, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office arrested a suspect in a purse-snatching crime spree involving over 40 victims in the parking lot of Costco, located at 13130 SE 84th Ave, Clackamas, OR 97015. Authorities believe there may be additional victims and are seeking tips. The arrest comes after nearly a year of purse-snatching and fraud incidents in which the suspect targeted single women loading groceries into their vehicles --stealing their purses, wallets, and/or credit cards while they were distracted. The credit cards were used to make fraudulent purchases of gift cards, tools, and other items in the Clackamas and Happy Valley areas. MISSING EUGENE MAN PULLED FROM THE WILLAMETTE RIVER

Benton Co. Sheriff's Office CORVALLIS, Ore.  – On August 17, 2022, at approximately 11 a.m., Benton County Sheriff’s Deputies pulled the remains of a Eugene missing person from the Willamette River. A female was recreating in a canoe, when she located a body on a small island of the river about one mile north of McCartney Park, near Harrisburg. BCSO Deputies responded and during the course of the investigation were able to identify the remains to be those of 36-year-old Justin Grossman. According to information provided by the Lane County Sheriff’s Office on May 9, 2022, rescuers  from Eugene/Springfield Fire and the Lane County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a capsized canoe in the Willamette River on May 7, 2022. Searchers saturated the area but were unable to find Grossman, who had reportedly been camping on an island in the river and was using the canoe to commute to and from it when the boat capsized.

MARIJUANA SEARCH WARRANT 08/17/22

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On August 17, 2022, the Josephine Marijuana Enforcement Team (JMET) executed a search warrant in the 800 block of Coyote Creek Road in Josephine County regarding an illegal marijuana grow site.  The search warrant was executed with the assistance of Rogue Area Drug Enforcement (RADE) and Josephine County Code Enforcement.  During the execution of the warrant more than 3,000 growing marijuana plants were seized and destroyed. Multiple firearms, silver and cash was also seized.  The property also had multiple electrical, water and solid waste code violations. These violations could result in the civil forfeiture of the property.  The primary suspect was not located during the execution of the warrant. Deputies warn of 'rainbow fentanyl'; other drugs, guns seized in warrant

Multnomah County Sheriff's Office During a recent search warrant, Multnomah County Special Investigations Unit (SIU) deputies found a new form of fentanyl that is considered to be more dangerous and potent than pressed pills. At the suspect’s residence in Northeast Portland, deputies found body armor, $5,000 in cash, nine guns, some of which were modified and stolen, and drugs including meth, heroin, 800 pills of fentanyl and four grams of multi-colored, powdered fentanyl, often referred to as ‘rainbow fentanyl.’ For investigative reasons, the suspect's name is not being released at this time.
