FATAL CRASH US-101 - CURRY COUNTY

Oregon State Police On November 14, at approximately 2:43AM, the Oregon State Police responded to a single vehicle roll-over crash on US-101, near MP 344. The preliminary investigation indicated a northbound Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Allen Shaffar (41) of Brookings, left the roadway for an unknown reason resulting in a roll-over crash. The operator was deceased upon the arrival of first responders. OSP was assisted by the Gold Beach Fire Department, the Pistol River Fire Department, and the Curry County Sheriff's Office.

VEHICLE INTO A BUILDING - 764 NW GARDEN VALLEY BOULEVARD

Roseburg Fire Dept. At 3:30 p.m. on November 15, 2022, personnel from the Roseburg Fire Department, Roseburg Police Department, and Umpqua Valley Ambulance responded to a vehicle into a building at 764 NW Garden Valley Boulevard.  Dispatch reported a vehicle had drove into Seven Thai restaurant striking patrons inside the restaurant. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a Toyota Sienna minivan, driven by Jeanne Wallace (94 years of age), had driven through the glass pane front of the Seven Thai restaurant and struck several people that were seated at tables inside the restaurant.  Two patients were found to be trapped under the vehicle.  Five patients were injured and three were transported, two of which were trauma patients.  Statements to police officers on scene revealed the driver had inadvertently pushed down on the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal.  The driver was uninjured and cited for careless driving.  The vehicle was removed from the building by Roseburg Towing personne

SHOOTING NEAR JEFFERSON HIGHSCHOOL LEAVES ONE JUVENILE INJURED

Portland Police Bureau A student is being treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound after a shooting occurred near Jefferson High School. On November 14, 2022, at 4:26 p.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to a local hospital on the report of a walk-in gunshot victim. Officers arrived and learned two 17-year-olds had just left Jefferson High School and were driving near the intersection of North Killingsworth Street and North Haight Avenue at around 3:30 p.m., when the occupant or occupants of another vehicle drove by and fired several rounds at them, striking their car. Fortunately, only one of the students was hit, and they were able to leave the area to seek medical attention. The injured student was shot in the shoulder. Officers canvased the area and found evidence of the shooting at the intersection of North Killingsworth Street and North Haight Avenue. Apparent Medical Emergency Results in Adult-In-Custody Death at Jackson County Jail

Sheriff's Office   MEDFORD, Ore. - Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) Corrections Deputies recognized an Adult-In-Custody (AIC) in medical need last night in the Jackson County Jail a round  10:14 p.m.  Deputies helped the AIC out of her cell, at which time she was alert and responsive to deputy questions. Jail Staff requested an ambulance, but before Emergency Medical Services (EMS) could arrive the AIC became unresponsive. Deputies began life-saving efforts, and were joined by first responders from Medford Fire and Mercy Flights. The efforts were unsuccessful and the AIC was pronounced deceased at approximately  10:45 p.m.   The decedent, Sabrina Renee Decker, of Central Point, was 34-years-old at the time of her death. She was being held in the Jackson County Jail awaiting trial. Next of kin notifications have been made. TWO OUT-BUILDINGS AND A RV BURN IN EARLY MORNING FIRE

Douglas Co. Fire Dist. No.2 Two small out-buildings and one RV were lost in an early morning in Melrose.  Firefighters with Douglas County Fire District No. 2 were dispatched at 5:20 a.m. to a report of possibly two barns on fire in the 200 block of Snowberry Rd. in Melrose.  Crews arrived on scene and found one out-building fully involved in fire spreading to another small outbuilding and a fifth wheel trailer.  Crews verified all residents were accounted for and out of the buildings and trailer. Crews with Fire District No. 2 worked to extinguish the fire and remained on scene mopping up and looking for hot spots.  Both out-buildings and the RV are considered a complete loss.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. Douglas County Fire District No. 2 responded to the incident with 9 firefighters which included 3 fire engines, 2 water tenders, and 1 command vehicle.  They were assisted by Lookingglass Fire District.

ARSON SUSPECT JARRID HUBER SOUGHT ON FELONY WARRANT

Portland Police Bureau An arson suspect is being sought after failing to turn himself in. Jarrid Bailey Huber, 23, who was on pretrial release for an Arson in the First Degree case from May 25, 2021, failed to turn himself in to law enforcement as required. He has a felony warrant for his arrest. Huber is a white male, 6’02” in height, 210 lbs. The attached mugshot photo was taken November 8, 2022 and is being distributed in an effort to assist in Huber's apprehension. Huber was arrested November 8, 2022 for an unrelated case (  https://www.mcda.us/index.php/ news/da-mike-schmidt- announces-arraignment-of- anarchist-member-for- disorderly-conduct-on-night- of-midterm-election  ) prior to the warrant being issued. EXCHANGE OF GUNFIRE WITH OFFICERS ENDS WITH TWO IN CUSTODY

Salem Police Department Salem, Ore.  — At approximately 6:52 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2022, gun shots were exchanged between a Salem Police officer and adult males who had run from a stolen vehicle. No officers or suspects were injured.    At approximately 6:26 pm a woman reported two males had attempted to rob her of her vehicle  in the area of 17 th  St SE and Hines St SE.  The victim also reported she believed one of the males was armed.   While investigating the attempted carjacking, officers spotted a stolen vehicle  in the area of 18 th  St NE and Center St NE,  which was taken in a previous carjacking. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled. The vehicle eventually stopped, and three occupants fled on foot.   A Salem police officer chased after the suspects and was involved in an exchange of gunfire at 14 th  St NE and B St NE. Sisters Man Arrested for Fentanyl and Methamphetamine Trafficking

Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) On November 11, 2022, at approximately 9:30 AM, the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team concluded a short-term investigation with the arrest of Paul Weston, age 46, of Sisters, Oregon.  After receiving several community complaints, CODE detectives identified Mr. Weston as a fentanyl trafficker in the Sisters, Oregon area. The initial investigation alleges Mr. Weston imported fentanyl pills from the Portland area into central Oregon, where he distributes them. After an overnight surveillance operation in the Portland area, CODE Detectives applied for, obtained, and executed a search warrant. At approximately 9:30 AM, Mr. Weston was contacted during a traffic stop on Highway 20 west, near milepost 96, while driving a 2021 Dodge Ram pick-up towing a dump trailer.  CODE Detectives and DCSO Deputies gathered and seized a commercial quantity of fake pharmaceutical tablets made of fentanyl and a separate package of methamphetamine. At the same time, it

K9 DEPUTY LOCATES WANTED SUBJECT NEAR AIRPORT

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office On 11-8-22 at approximately 1:30pm, a Lane County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to contact 31-year-old Jonathan James Gilvin, a wanted subject, on Sears Rd. near Molitor Hill Rd.  When contacted by the deputy, Gilvin fled on foot through blackberry bushes and jumped into the dangerously cold Row River. Gilvin swam across the river and climbed up onto the bank before disappearing into some bushes adjacent to the Cottage Grove Airport. Additional deputies responded to the area and began searching for Gilvin.  Deputy Chris Gardner along with his K-9 partner, Ripp, assisted in the search. Ripp quickly caught on to Gilvin’s scent and tracked him to an area overgrown with blackberry bushes.    Gilvin was taken into custody and found to be in the early stages of hypothermia.  He was treated at a local hospital before being lodged at the Lane County Jail. Ripp was commended for his phenomenal police work and will be properly compensated in the form of extra milk bone

Oregon Military Department The 142nd Wing out of the Portland Air National Guard Base, Portland, Oregon will conduct Veterans Day flyovers for ceremonies and parades at locations throughout the state. 142nd Wing Commander, Colonel Todd Hofford, said the wing is proud to conduct the flyovers. “We appreciate the opportunity to honor those that have served before us. Search Warrant Yields Arrest, Seizure of Fentanyl and other Narcotics

Lincoln City Police   On 10/29/22, Lincoln City Police Officers executed a residential search warrant at 621 SE Reef Ave. After receiving reports from several concerned citizens regarding a large amount of short-stay traffic and drug use in public view, a criminal investigation began and enough evidence was obtained to conduct a search warrant of the residence.  The suspect, 58-year-old Gerald Smith of Lincoln City, was not home at the time of the search warrant execution. During the search warrant, Officers located Heroin, blue Fentanyl pills, and colored Fentanyl powder (depicted in photo). While the blue Fentanyl pills are most common right now, the colored Fentanyl powder is becoming more prevalent and it is much stronger and dangerous than the Fentanyl pills.  On 11/6/22, LCPD Officers returned to the house and located Gerald Smith. Oregon State Police On November 2, 2022, the Oregon State Police Southwest Region Drug Enforcement Section team with assistance from the Josephine County Marijuana Enforcement Team (JMET) of the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, executed search warrants at two (2) separate locations in Cave Junction, Josephine County; the 8600 block of Caves Hwy and 3700 block of Holland Loop Rd.  Located at the Caves Hwy property and seized were approximately 960 pounds of illegal, processed marijuana, seven firearms, approximately eight pounds of illegal THC extracts, and one cargo trailer. Additionally, evidence of illegal marijuana exportation from Oregon was discovered on-scene. SHOTS FIRED/HOSTAGE STANDOFF INCIDENT

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office ROSEBURG, Ore.  - A police pursuit turned into a several hour standoff hostage incident on Saturday night. Shortly after 9:00 pm on Saturday, November 5, 2022, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 2500-block of Strickland Canyon Road. The driver attempted to flee from law enforcement. The driver drove out Lookingglass Road before turning onto Happy Valley Road. Spike strips were successfully deployed before the driver turned onto Rolling Hills Road. The passenger, identified as Carlos Bernal, fled from the vehicle on foot and then fired at law enforcement officers. The officers, returned fire. Bernal entered an unsecured residence in the 100-block of Bunting Court. Bernal held two people as  hostages as law enforcement attempted to negotiate and defuse the situation. We are very excited and pleased to announce that Tyler Christopherson has been promoted to Fire Chief, effective November 1, 2022.  He will be replacing retired Chief Monte Bryan, who retired June 30, 2022.  Chief Christopherson was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon.  Shortly after graduating from Churchill High School, he began his career in the fire serve as a volunteer Firefighter for Santa Clara Fire District in the Eugene area.  In 1999, he began study at Chemeketa Community College and then graduated with an Associate’s degree in Fire Science in December of 2000. Oregon State Police On November 2, 2022, at about 3:45 P.M., a Trooper responded to a call of a large dump site of dead salmon near Exit 51 on I-84 and Wyeth Rd, not far from Cascade Locks, Oregon. The investigation determined the salmon were caught in gill nets. Some salmon were filleted while others were left whole. The dump site was located near a tribal in-lieu fishing site.
