Lane Co. Sheriff's Office Update:   As of 3:30pm the lockdown at Lane Community College has been lifted.   Authorities have determined there to be no credible threat. Circumstances surrounding the initial report of an armed person on campus are under investigation.   02/22/2023 – 2:06pm Lane County Sheriff’s deputies are currently on scene at the LCC Main Campus after receiving the report of an armed person on campus.   There have been no reports of shots fired or injuries.   Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area until additional information becomes available.  Click Here To Download Our App

DEATH INVESTIGATION AT COUGAR RESERVOIR

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office On Saturday 02/18/2023 at approximately 4:22pm, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a man had fallen off a cliff located between the Aufderheide Hwy (USFS Rd. 19) and Cougar Reservoir, near the Terwilliger Hot Springs.  First responders arrived and were able to see the man lying motionless on the ground at the bottom of a cliff, but due to the extreme terrain, the rescuers were not able to immediately reach him.  Lane County Sheriff Search and Rescue personnel had also been enroute and upon arrival used ropes to rappel down the cliff. The victim, a 22-year old man from the Salem area, was determined to be deceased.  His identity is being withheld at this time. GRANTS PASS MAN SENTENCED TO FEDERAL PRISON FOR STEALING FROM A TRIBAL ORGANIZATION AND ILLEGALLY POSSESSING A FIREARM

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon EUGENE, Ore.—A Grants Pass, Oregon man pleaded guilty and was sentenced to federal prison today for stealing more than $70,000 from the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians and illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. After pleading guilty to one count each of stealing from a Tribal organization and illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, Kevin Lee Jones, 34, was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison and 3 years’ supervised release. Jones was also ordered to pay $74,228 in restitution to the Cow Creek Tribe. According to court documents, on September 6, 2021, Jones attempted to disguise his identity and stole $74,228 in cash from a business owned by the Cow Creek Tribe in Canyonville, Oregon. Several weeks later, in October 2021, Jones, who has a lengthy criminal history and, as a convicted felon, was prohibited from possessing firearms, was found unresponsive in a car in Grants Pass with a loaded pistol

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore.  - All Douglas County schools have been released from lockdown.  The Sheriff's Office, working in conjunction with other local law enforcement agencies, responded this morning to  false  reports of active shooters in various Douglas County schools. Law Enforcement responded to each report utilizing active shooter response protocols and assessed each situation. Out of an abundance of caution, all schools were advised to activate their lockdown procedures.  Each school in the county was visited by law enforcement and determined to be safe at which point that school would be released from the lockdown. All lockdowns have been lifted and classes have resumed. If you have further concerns, please contact your local school office. DOUGLAS COUNTY RECEIVES MULTIPLE FALSE REPORTS OF ACTIVE SHOOTER INCIDENTS AT AREA SCHOOLS

However, law enforcement is responding to each report and taking each report seriously. Law enforcement is working in partnership with all schools to ensure safety of students and staff. Parents may have a reaction to want to pick up their child from school and we urge parents to please not do that. Doing so can result in additional chaos and panic as well as detract law enforcement from focusing on their assigned tasks.  “We believe these to be swatting incidents to instigate police response and generate panic among responders and community members,” Lt. Oregon State Penitentiary reports in-custody death

Oregon Dept. of Corrections An Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) adult in custody, Michael M. McDonell, died the evening of February 19, 2023. McDonnell was incarcerated at Oregon State Penitentiary (OSP) in Salem and passed away at a local hospital while on hospice care. As with all in-custody deaths, the Oregon State Police have been notified.  McDonnell entered DOC custody on May 16, 1984, from Lane and Douglas Counties with no release date. McDonnell was 71 years old. DOC takes all in-custody deaths seriously. The agency is responsible for the care and custody of approximately 12,000 men and women who are incarcerated in 12 institutions across the state. While crime information is public record, DOC elects to disclose only upon request out of respect for any family or victims. OSP is a multi-custody prison located in Salem that houses approximately 2,000 adults in custody. OSP is surrounded by a 25-foot-high wall with 10 towers. DEPUTIES ASK FOR HELP IN LOCATING MISSING AND ENDANGERED MAN

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office UPDATE  On Tuesday, February 20, 2023, at 11:30 p.m., officers from the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) located Edward Loo in NW Portland. The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the community and PPB for their help in finding Loo. On Tuesday, February 20, 2023, at 8:45 p.m. Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a missing and endangered person in unincorporated Washington County near the City of Tigard. Deputies learned 89-year-old Edward Loo left his home near the 8200 block of SW Glencreek Court and did not return. Loo left in his 2018 4-door Honda Civic, with Oregon license plate 545KWD, and was going to the Pet Smart near Washington Square. Loo never arrived at Pet Smart. Loo was last seen wearing blue jeans and a navy-blue t-shirt. Mail Theft Arrest

Coos County Sheriff's Office On February 20, 2023, at 1:13 p.m. Deputy R. Baker was dispatched to an address on Spinreel Road, near Lakeside to a report of theft of mail in progress. When en-route the Coos County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center advised Deputy Baker the suspect vehicle had fled from the location.  A short time later Deputy Baker and an Oregon State Trooper turned onto Spinreel Road from Highway 101, and located the suspect vehicle on the side of the road under the railroad bridge. It should be noted Deputy Baker had contacted this vehicle earlier while patrolling Lakeside due to suspicious circumstances he observed while on general patrol of the area. At that time no crime was observed.    Kaitlyn Campbell (24) years of age, was sitting in the suspect vehicle with a male occupant. FATAL PEDESTRIAN INVOLVED TRAFFIC COLLISION

Gresham Police Dept Gresham, Ore.—On Feb. 20, at approximately 2:50p.m., Gresham police officers and medical personnel responded to a report of a traffic collision involving a U-Haul truck and pedestrian, in the 16800 block of E Burnside St. The truck came to rest on the Max tracks. Max trains were stopped in both directions and motorists are asked to avoid Burnside Rd, from 172 nd  Ave to 162 nd  Ave. Westbound vehicular traffic was completely closed on Burnside but for the investigation and was re-opened just after 5:30p.m. Max trains are expected to resume shortly.   The adult female pedestrian was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Search and Rescue Saves Lost Motorist Stranded in Snow

Jackson County Sheriff's Office Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (SAR) responded Friday night at 11 p.m to a call for a lost and stranded Sam’s Valley man between Canyonville and White City, Oregon. Douglas County SAR responded to assist due to a portion of the search area being in their jurisdiction. The search continued throughout the night and morning due to the large geographical area. SAR teams carried out the search using 4X4 vehicles and a fixed wing aircraft.  The SAR aircraft located the missing man’s vehicle at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, but he was not near his truck. A SAR vehicle team was quickly redirected to the area where they located the missing man attempting to walk out approximately four miles from his vehicle. The man was cold but uninjured. REMINDER: I-5 SLOWDOWNS NEAR GLENDALE BEGIN MONDAY MORNING

ODOT: SW Oregon GLENDALE – Interstate 5 motorists should expect weekday traffic delays through southern Douglas County the next two weeks for tree removal. Starting Monday, Feb. 20, contractors for ODOT will fell trees along the center median and shoulder of I-5 between Glendale and Azalea (milepost 80-88). The work is scheduled from Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rolling slowdowns will be used in both directions and most delays will be less than 20 minutes. Southbound traffic will be affected between Canyonville (Exit 98) and Glendale (Exit 80), while northbound traffic will see slowdowns from Sunny Valley (Exit 71) to Quines Creek (Exit 86). Flaggers will hold traffic at each on-ramp in these areas for 10-20 minutes. The work may also require lane and shoulder closures in both directions. Motorists should watch for construction vehicles entering and exiting the travel lanes. Removing the trees will help improve safety by establishing a clear zone along the I-5 travel lanes in thi

PORTLAND MAN SENTENCED TO FEDERAL PRISON FOR SHIPPING FIREARM AND AMMUNITION TO THE U.K., POSSESSING METHAMPHETAMINE

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon PORTLAND, Ore.—A Portland man was sentenced to the federal prison today after he was caught shipping a handgun and ammunition to the United Kingdom and possessing a pound of methamphetamine in his residence. Lyle Justin Schirm, 35, was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison and five years’ supervised release, resolving two separate criminal cases. According to court documents, in November 2020, law enforcement authorities in the U.K. notified Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) about a FedEx parcel shipped from Portland to the U.K. containing a 9mm handgun and ammunition. When interviewed by U.S. law enforcement, Schirm admitted to shipping the firearm. Schirm also told investigators he learned about shipping firearms to the U.K. by watching a video on YouTube. HSI later confirmed Schirm did not have a license to ship a firearm to the U.K. On November 5, 2020, as part of a separate drug trafficking investigation, agents from the U.S.

STREET CRIMES DETECTIVES SEIZE FENTANYL PILLS DURING SEARCH WARRANT

Sheriff's Office On February 16, 2023, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for a recreational vehicle, acting as a dwelling, on NE Hunnel Road. The Street Crimes Unit (SCU) conducted a short-term investigation regarding the illegal distribution of fentanyl in the area north of Bend. SCU utilized numerous investigative tactics to obtain evidence of drug sales at the recreational vehicle located on NE Hunnel Road. As a result of the search warrant execution a commercial quantity of counterfeit oxycodone pills containing suspected fentanyl was seized. Additionally, investigators located two firearms to include an AR style rifle. A commercial quantity of suspected methamphetamine was also located and seized.  Dillard was found to be out of compliance with his sex offender registration. LON 'KATANA' COFFEY CHARGED WITH ADDITIONAL CHILD SEX CRIMES

Sheriff's Office Lane County Sheriff’s Office detectives have uncovered additional evidence indicating that Lon Curtis Coffey sexually abused other children in addition to those related to his January 20 th  arrest. Coffey has remained in the custody of the Lane County Jail since that arrest.    Detectives established probable cause to believe that Coffey sexually abused a child under the age of 12.  He has been charged with the crimes of Sex Abuse in the First Degree and Unlawful Sexual Penetration in the First Degree in addition to his original charges of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse. 45-year-old Lon Curtis Coffey frequently goes by the nickname of ‘Katana’.  He has most recently lived in the Veneta, Junction City, and Albany areas.  Investigators have reason to believe that there may be additional victims.  Please contact Lane County Sheriff’s Office detectives at 541-682-4150 if your child has had contact with Coffey. FATAL STRUCTURE FIRE

  Coos County Sheriff’s Office On February 14th, 2023 at 2:11 p.m. the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received several 911 reports of a structure fire on Wilshire Lane in Barview.  Members of the Charleston Fire Department immediately responded and observed thick black smoke coming from all the windows and doors of the structure. Believing the resident was home, Charleston Fire Personnel immediately made entry into the structure and located a single occupant deceased.  Charleston Fire requested mutual aid assistance and several local fire departments responded to assist in extinguishing the structure fire.  The Coos County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation into the fire with the assistance of the Coos County Medical Examiner’s Office. COLD CASE - UNIDENTIFIED HUMAN SKELETAL REMAINS

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office In June, 1986, the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Quartz Creek area regarding human skeletal remains being located on a homeowner’s property. The homeowner was in the process of putting in a new septic system when the owner discovered the remains in the ground approximately 4 feet deep and notified law enforcement. The homeowner had only owned the property for approximately 10 years.   With the remains, other items were located within the gravesite such as, fabric believed to be from a dress, a worn set of dentures and two rubber implements, believed to be from a walker or crutches.  At that time, law enforcement was unable to identify the decedent and forwarded the remains to the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination and DNA processing. Two Burglary Suspects In Custody After Traffic Stop

Coos County Sheriff's Office On February 13, 2023, at 4:43 p.m. Deputies Mong and Baker responded to a report of a burglary which had just occurred off North Coos River Hwy. The victim contacted the Coos County Sheriff’s Dispatch and stated he observed a man on his construction site, later identified as Patrick Freehill, crawling out of a hole of a residence under construction, where the plumbing went through. The victim stated the hole had been previously been covered by plywood which had been pushed in for Mr. Freehill to gain access to the house. The victim confronted the suspect (Freehill) who subsequently yelled "he is here. We got to go". The victim said he then saw another person leave from inside the residence. Both subjects fled from the residence in a black Nissan pick-up driving back towards the city of Coos Bay. Sheriff's Office IDLEYLD PARK, Ore.  - The Douglas County Major Crimes Team is investigating the death of a Glide man.  On Sunday, February 12, 2023, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office received a report of a male who was deceased on public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Idleyld Park.  Deputies responded to the reported area and confirmed the death of 35-year-old Glide resident, Austin Mitchell Clark. The cause of death has been ruled a homicide; the circumstances of which remain under investigation. Detectives state the death is an isolated event and there is no threat to public safety. The Douglas County Major Crimes Team is investigating the incident, with the Sheriff's Office assigned as the lead investigating agency. Lakeside Man Arrested After Trying To Set A Woman On Fire

Coos County Sheriff's Office On February 14 th 2023 at 10:47 a.m. Sgt. J. Clayburn and several other deputies responded to the Lakeside area to a report of a woman who had accelerant poured on her and was subsequently nearly lit on fire. The victim was treated at the scene and transported by ambulance to a local medical facility.  During an investigation Sgt. Clayburn determined the suspect was Peter Sialaris (61) years of age of Lakeside. Probable cause for Mr. Sialaris arrest was established on the charges of attempted assault I, attempted arson I, and menacing domestic. Officers surrounded Mr. Sialaris’ residence believing him to be inside. The Emergency Response Team (ERT), which is a multi-agency team, was activated and responded to the suspect address inside the city of Lakeside. A search warrant was obtained and subsequently, Mr. Sialaris’ residence was searched, however he was not located.  A short time later Mr. Sialaris returned to his residence on foot, was interviewed

FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office On 02/11/2023 at approximately 7:00pm, deputies from the Lane County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a single vehicle traffic crash in the 37100blk of Row River Rd, near the Row River School.  Preliminary investigation revealed that a silver 1992 Toyota pickup had been traveling westbound on Row River Rd. when it failed to negotiate a curve.  The truck slid before rolling over and ejecting a passenger, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Intoxication does not appear to be a factor in the crash.  This investigation is ongoing and the identities of those involved are being withheld at this time.  While deputies were investigating the crash, a 1997 Ford pickup driven by 51-year-old Richard Eugene Watkins attempted to drive through the crash scene and nearly struck a patrol car.  Deputies contacted Watkins and determined him to be under the influence of alcohol.  Watkins was arrested for DUII (LCSO Case #23-0847).  Click Here To Download Our

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO ARREST AND DRUG SEIZER- JEFFERSON COUNTY

Oregon State Police On February 12, 2023, at approximately 7:20 P.M., an Oregon State Police Trooper stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 97 near E street in Madras.   During the stop, the Trooper noticed signs of criminal activity, and a consent to search the vehicle was conducted.  During the search of the vehicle, the Trooper located over 7 pounds of Methamphetamine.  The occupants of the vehicle, identified as Luiz Maria Ramirez-Gutierrez (42) and Reyna Paola Marin-Ramirez (20) both from Morrow, Washington, were lodged at the Jefferson County Jail for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Manufacture of a Controlled Substance and Attempted Distribution of Commercial Quantities of Methamphetamine.     OSP Troopers were assisted during the investigation by Detectives from the OSP-Criminal Investigations Division-Drug Enforcement Section (Domestic Highway Enforcement Initiative), Special Agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration – Bend Task Force, and the Deschutes County S

ARMED ROBBERY INVESTIGATION, TIPS WANTED

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office ROSEBURG, Ore.  - The Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery which occurred Thursday evening at Log Cabin Grocery. On Thursday, February 9, 2023, at approximately 8:00 pm, 9-1-1 dispatchers received a report of an armed robbery which had just occurred at the Log Cabin Grocery located at 4751 NE Stephens Street. Multiple law enforcement officers from the Sheriff's Office and Roseburg Police Department responded. Deputies have learned that a white male adult approximately 5'4" tall and approximately 220 pounds entered the store, displayed a handgun and began trying to gain access to the cash registers. The suspect then grabbed a register with an undisclosed amount of cash and ran out of the store with it. Woman Assaults Driver And Takes Vehicle

Eugene Police Department At 10:43 p.m. on February 9, Eugene Police officers were called to respond to a physical dispute at East Broadway and Willamette Street. Upon arrival, they found two 18-year-old woman had had their vehicle taken by another woman, later identified as Jerimy Sara Laxton, age 37.  The driver of the vehicle, a Ford Focus, had gotten out of the vehicle and was approached by Laxton, who began pushing and shoving the her. When the victim began to scream, Laxton is reported to have made jabbing motions. The vehicle’s passenger got out and tried to come to her friend’s aid. But, Laxton is reported to have turned her attention to her and made jabbing motions to her as well. Laxton had a knife.  A 39-year-old man who works in the area ran over to help and told the teens to get away from Laxton. They stepped away and Laxton got into the vehicle and drove away at a high rate of speed eastbound on West Broadway towards Oak Street. The driver had some non-life threatening lac
