Cave Junction Man Shot during attempted Burglary of Residence - Josephine County

On Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at approximately 4:00 a.m., Troopers from the Oregon State Police Grants Pass patrol office responded to a reported burglary in Cave Junction, Oregon.  Initial reports indicated the reporting party, and homeowner, had shot a subject while he was breaking into his residence. The suspect was shot in the leg and was laying in the homeowner’s yard at the time of call.

Oregon State Police Detectives responded to assist patrol with the investigation. It was determined the suspect, identified as Kristopher Alan Nelson (28) of Cave Junction, Oregon attempted to force entry into the residence.  The home owner fired warning shots and when Nelson continued his attack Nelson was shot in the leg. The homeowner is cooperating with the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending for Nelson. No charges are expected for the homeowner at this time. Nelson was treated for his injuries at Three Rivers Medical Center.  No additional information is available for release at this time.
