SE Bend Traffic Stop Leads to Methamphetamine Seizure

Theft I (by receiving stolen property)

Investigation Details:
On March 29, 2018, at about 2121 hours, a Bend Police Officer executed a traffic stop near the location of SE 4th Street and SE Railroad Street within the city limits of Bend, Oregon.
While initiating the traffic stop, which involved a black BMW sedan, a bag was thrown from the passenger side of the vehicle.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was contacted and identified as Christopher Lee Hughes. Hughes was detained and eventually searched. A switch blade style knife was located on Hughes’ person at this time. Furthermore, a subsequent search of the bag that was thrown from Hughes vehicle revealed a substantial amount of a crystalline substance which field tested as methamphetamine.
Hughes’ vehicle was searched and a Samsung Galaxy cell phone was located in his vehicle and identified as stolen property in relation to a Washington County theft case. In addition, further evidence of drug distribution was located within Hughes’ vehicle.
In total, 59.5 grams of methamphetamine and $801 cash were seized in relation to this case. Hughes was lodged at Deschutes County Adult Jail on the listed criminal charges.
