*Update - Name Released* OSP Responds to Pedestrian Fatality on I-5 near Milepost 250 in Salem

Update

On Saturday March 24, 2018 at about 8:55pm, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of vehicle versus pedestrian crash on I-5 near milepost 250.5 south of the Kuebler Blvd overpass.

Preliminary investigation revealed an adult, male pedestrian, Kirk Daniel WILCOX (42) Sparks, Nevada was dressed in dark colored clothing and attempted to cross Interstate 5 from the center median across three southbound lanes. A 2015 GMC pickup towing an enclosed cargo trailer, operated by 35 year old Christopher Scott LINN from Albany attempted to avoid WILCOX but struck him with the right front area of his pickup. LINN is cooperating with the investigation. A member of WILCOX'S family has been notified.

The Oregon State Police was assisted by the Salem Fire Department, the Marion County Medical Examiner, the Marion County District Attorney's Office and ODOT.

Preliminary investigation revealed an adult, male pedestrian, who wearing dark colored clothing, was attempting to cross Interstate 5 from the center median across three southbound lanes. A 2015 GMC pickup towing an enclosed cargo trailer, operated by 35 year old Christopher Scott LINN from Albany attempted to avoid the pedestrian but struck him with the right front area of his pickup. LINN is cooperating with the investigation. The pedestrian who appears to be homeless was a 42 year old white male and his name has not been released pending next of kin notification.

The Oregon State Police was assisted by the Salem Fire Department, the Marion County Medical Examiner, the Marion County District Attorney's Office and ODOT.
