Two Suspects Arrested, Gun Seized During Early Morning Traffic Stop

Portland Police Bureau - 05/31/18

On Thursday, May 31, 2018, at 2:34 a.m., Central Precinct officers attempted to stop a vehicle and the occupants of the vehicle in the area of Southwest 4th Avenue and Southwest Oak Street.

Central Precinct Entertainment Detail officers, working in Downtown Portland, attempted to stop a silver Buick sedan after observing the driver of the Buick perform a traffic violation. The driver drove away from officers when they turned on their emergency lights. After fleeing from officers, the driver suddenly stopped the Buick near Southwest Broadway and Southwest Oak. As the vehicle came to a stop, the driver and two other occupants ran from the car.

Officers pursued the occupants of the vehicle on foot and located and arrested the front seat passenger of the vehicle. Officers were not able to locate the driver and other occupant immediately after the foot pursuit. During an area search, that followed the front passenger's path-of-travel, a firearm was located and seized as evidence (shown in picture). Officers believe the front seat passenger tossed the gun as he was pursued by officers.

While officers continued to investigate the traffic stop and illegal possession of a firearm, the registered owner of the Buick contacted police to report her vehicle had been stolen. Based on information learned during the investigation, officers believed the registered owner of the vehicle was actually driving the Buick during the early morning incident and that the vehicle was not stolen. East Precinct officers responded to the registered owner's residence near East Burnside Street and Southeast 146th Avenue. Officers contacted the registered owner and took her into custody without incident.

The front seat passenger of the vehicle has been identified as 24-year-old Antonio L. Cabine. The registered owner and suspected driver of the vehicle was identified as 30-year-old Natash V Molett. Cabine was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Interfere with a Peace Officer, Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Carry Concealed Weapon, and Possession of Cocaine. Molett was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on a charge of Attempt to Elude by Vehicle.
