Catnapping Suspect Arrested, Public's Help Still Sought

On Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at 6:24 p.m., North Precinct officers arrested 25-year-old Luke J. Andrade at Overlook Park, located at 3515 North Interstate Avenue. Andrade was arrested in connection with the theft of a kitten.

This investigation began on Tuesday, September 17, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., when a North Precinct officer responded to Pixie Project, located at 510 Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, on the report that a man had entered the location and stole a kitten.

Based on information gathered during the investigation, officers learned the suspect entered the Pixie Project on Monday, September 16, 2018, at 6:24 p.m., while the non-profit was closed but volunteers were tending to cats and kittens. The suspect entered through an un-locked door and grabbed a kitten and left the location.

Community members contacted officers on Tuesday and provided information about the identity of the suspect and his whereabouts. Based on this information, officers responded to Overlook Park. While searching the park officers located Andrade and took him into custody with out incident. After Andrade was taken into custody, officers learned he had likely sold the kitten to a man on Monday somewhere in downtown Portland. The feline is described as a black kitten and is microchipped.

At this time, the only description of the person who purchased the kitten is that the person is a man.

Andrade was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Theft in the First Degree (two counts), Burglary in the Second Degree, and a warrant for Arson.
