Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Fatal Crash on Oregon Route 86 - Baker County

Oregon State Police - 10/20/18 
On Friday, October 19, 2018, at about 5:12 p.m., a fatal crash occurred on Oregon Route 86, milepost 2.5, near Baker City.  The location was just east of Interstate 84, milepost 302 interchange. 

Preliminary information revealed that Dennis Tim CHENEY, age 59, of Walla Walla, WA, had parked his 1998 Dodge Pickup and large flatbed trailer on the westbound shoulder facing Interstate 84 and was outside his vehicle checking the air pressure in his vehicle trailer tires. A 2016 Jeep SUV, operated by Adrienne Marie LARSEN, age 32, of Boise, ID, was traveling westbound on Oregon Route 86 when her vehicle crossed the right fog line and struck CHENEY. 


CHENEY sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  LARSEN was not injured and was taken into custody.  She was lodged at the Baker County Jail for DUII, Manslaughter 1 and 2, Criminally Negligent Homicide, Reckless Endangerment, and additional charges may be considered. 


Oregon Route 86 was closed for approximately 4 hours.

Oregon State Police was assisted by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), Baker County Sheriff’s Office, Baker City Fire Department, Baker Rural Fire Protection District, Baker City Ambulance, and the Baker County District Attorney's Office.
