Driver arrested in fatal hit and run crash in Marion County

Oregon State Police - 11/28/18 

On Monday, November 26, 2018 at approximately 7:27 A.M. Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to the report of a hit and run crash on Hwy 99E at the intersection of Howell Prairie Rd.  

Investigation revealed that a Chrysler PT Cruiser, operated by Luis Herrera Alvarez (41) was traveling northbound on Hwy 99E when he struck a Subaru Impreza, operated by Tatiana Reutov-Skorohodoff (23) of Salem, that was stopped on Howell Prairie Rd. waiting to turn southbound onto Hwy 99E. The Subaru Impreza was then pushed into a Chevrolet Malibu, operated by Jasmin Cortes-Garcia (23) of Mt. Angel, that was also stopped on Howell Prairie Rd. waiting to turn northbound onto Hwy 99E.

Herrera Alvarez fled the scene on foot and was later located on Boones Ferry Rd.  He was arrested and lodged at the Marion County Jail on charges of DUII (.17 BAC), Reckless Driving, and Felony Hit and Run.  

One of the passengers in the Subaru Impreza, Vaselisa Reutov (77), was transported to the hospital were she later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

This case has been referred to the Marion County District Attorney's office for consideration of additional charges against Herrera Alvarez.
