Plane Crash at Bend Municipal Airport

On December 29th 2018, Officers with the Bend Police Department and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Bend Municipal Airport on a report of a plane that crashed. Officers arrived on scene and learned that a single engine, Cessna 180 crashed on the northeast corner of the runway. The plane was occupied by the pilot and three passengers. All occupants of the plane were not seriously injured and were treated on scene. One passenger was transported to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend for a minor injury.

As the plane touched down a gust of wind hit the plane. The pilot attempted to gain control of the plane however it made contact with an embankment and crashed just east of the runway. The Pilot advised they were returning from an approximate 3 hour fight when the crash occurred. The airport remained open during the investigation.
