Cold Exposure Death Investigation near La Pine

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office - 01/14/19

On January 14, 2019, at approximately 11:45am, deputies with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 17600 block of Penny Court regarding a male that had been located laying in the driveway.  Penny Court is a dead end street in the Newberry Estates subdivision NE of La Pine.

The first deputy arrived at the address nine minutes later and found the male cold to the touch and beyond medical help.

The initial investigation into the death has determined Mr. Campbell likely arrived at his residence yesterday evening.  Evidence at the scene shows he had slipped on the ice and fell upon exiting his vehicle.  Mr. Campbell was unable to get to his feet and began crawling towards an area of the driveway with less ice, where he could get back onto his feet.  Mr. Campbell ultimately was not able to get up and likely succumbed to cold exposure.

Our thoughts are with the friends of family of Mr. Campbell.
