Armed Kidnapping Suspect Arrested by Police

Portland Police Bureau

On Sunday, April 29, 2019 at 12:51 P.M., East Precinct officers responded to the 8400 Block of Northeast Broadway on a report of a disturbance where one person involved was threatening at least one other person with a shotgun. As officers responded, they were updated that two people involved in the disturbance were leaving in a blue car. An officer located a vehicle matching that description at Northeast 82nd Avenue and Northeast Tillamook Street. Officers from East and North Precincts responded to assist. Due to the information that there was an armed suspect, the officers conducted a high risk stop on the vehicle. Two people were taken into custody. A shotgun was located in the trunk of the vehicle and seized as evidence.

Officers learned that the suspect pointed the shotgun at a victim, who was known to him. The suspect also pointed the shotgun at other people in the area, before ordering the victim into the vehicle and driving away.

Detectives responded to assume the investigation. They booked 53-year-old Timothy E. Thompson(photo) in the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Kidnap in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, Menacing (3 counts), and Possession of Methamphetamine.

The victim was treated for minor injuries.
