Serious Injury Commercial Motor Vehicle Crash - Linn County

Oregon State Police

On Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 6:54 A.M. Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle commercial motor vehicle crash (CMV) on Interstate 5 at the 233 exit off ramp.

Preliminary investigation reveals that a CMV, operated by Steven Howard (58) of Salem, was northbound on I 5 when for an unknown reason he drove directly into the impact barrier between the NB travel lanes and Exit 233 off ramp. The CMV skidded and rolled onto its side on the exit lane.

The CMV and a large debris field completely blocked the off ramp and both NB lanes.

Howard was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital with serious injuries.

Responding personnel from OSP, Albany Fire, and ODOT were able to open the NB lanes of travel after approximately 45 minutes.

Hazmat team responded to contain the spill and the clean up and recovery will be ongoing.
