Sex Offender Arrested for Luring Teen

Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office

EAGLE POINT, Ore. – Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) detectives arrested a registered sex offender for crimes associated with attempts to lure a teen girl for sex.  The investigation was a collaborative effort with the Oregon Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC).

On June 19, 2019, JCSO detectives arrested Jed Randall Burns, 35, during the service of a search warrant at his residence in the 300-block of Leafwood Drive.  Burns was lodged in the Jackson County jail on the following charges:  first degree encouraging child sexual abuse (two counts); using a child in a display of sexual conduct (two counts); second degree online sexual corruption of a child; luring a minor.  Burns is required to register as a sex offender in Oregon due to a previous conviction.

The investigation began in February 2019 with a cyber tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding sexual images of a child shared online.  The information was passed to ICAC and to JCSO to continue the investigation.

Detectives identified Burns as the suspect in the case.  Detectives say Burns contacted the 17-year-old victim using social media and texting, and then made attempts to meet her in person for sexual purposes.

Investigators are concerned Burns may have additional victims in the Jackson County area who have not yet come forward.  Anyone with information can call the JCSO tip line at (541) 774-8333.  Refer to case #19-5151.
