Detectives Investigate Shooting, Crash

Detectives believe the incident began around midnight on July 5, 2019, with a verbal altercation at a playground at the corner of 25th Street and Avenue C, at the rear of the mobile home park at 3265 Antelope Road. Detectives say a 34-year-old woman left the area in a red Honda Civic, chased by a black Ford Fusion. The black car crashed into the back of the red car near the intersection of Division Road and Falcon Street.
At 12:37 a.m., dispatch received a 911 call reporting the crash. The black car left the scene and was later found parked a short distance away on Ajax Street. The occupants of the black car left the scene before deputies arrived. Detectives believe they walked back to the playground where the incident originated.
At 1:00 a.m., dispatch received a 911 call reporting a shooting in the 3200-block of Antelope Road. Deputies at the scene of the crash on Division Road heard the gunshots and responded to the location. Deputies located a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the foot. He was transported to Rogue Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Detectives arrested Andres Zavala Nuno, 23, a resident of the mobile home park, on charges related to the shooting. He is lodged in the Jackson County jail on the following charges: assault in the first degree; unlawful use of a weapon; recklessly endangering another person; and, felon in possession of a firearm.
Detectives say the firearm used in the shooting has not yet been recovered. They believe Nuno hid or discarded the handgun prior to his arrest. Deputies and search and rescue (SAR) personnel were searching the area Friday morning. In the meantime, detectives ask nearby residents to check their yards thoroughly and use caution when allowing children to play outside. If a firearm is located, detectives say do not touch it and call dispatch at (541) 776-7206 immediately.
The case remains under investigation. Detectives have already spoken to several people, but would like to hear from anyone with information about the shooting or the crash. Those with information can call the JCSO tip line at (541) 774-8333. Refer to case #19-13691.
