Medford Man Jailed for Images of Child Abuse

Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office

MEDFORD – Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) detectives arrested a Medford man Wednesday on charges related to possessing and sharing images of child sexual abuse.  The arrest caps a nine-month investigation that began with a cyber tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

In October 2018, the Oregon Department of Justice (DOJ) Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigators notified JCSO detectives of a case involving online images of child abuse shared on Facebook.  The initial ICAC investigation revealed one of the participants was located in Jackson County.

Through their collaborative investigation, ICAC investigators and JCSO detectives identified the suspect as Derrick Christopher Estrada, 32, of the 700-block of Stevens Street.  Detectives served search warrants at Estrada’s home and a second Medford residence associated with Estrada.  Detectives were further assisted by investigators with the Oregon State Police and the Southern Oregon High Tech Crimes Task Force.

On July 17, 2019, a grand jury indicted Estrada on nine counts of encouraging child sexual abuse in the first degree and nine counts of encouraging child sexual abuse in the second degree.  A judge signed an arrest warrant for Estrada for these charges and assigned bail at $180,000.

On July 24, 2019, JCSO detectives arrested Estrada on the warrant.  He was lodged in the Jackson County jail.

Anyone with information about the case can contact Detective Steve Bohn at (541) 774-6168.  Refer to case #18-22083.

  1. Lord Jesus, Papa God break this man's spirit to save his soul! May he be haunted, day and night with the terror those children felt he was exploiting! In the name of Jesus, Amen!!!
