Today, Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill announced that 38-year-old Alexander Anderson received a 120 month prison sentence for kidnapping and forcibly sexually assaulting a woman.

The victim, who is requesting privacy, described the impact this attack had on her, which includes ongoing fear, sleepless nights and continued emotional trauma.

During this investigation, law enforcement learned that on March 26, 2017, at approximately 1:30 a.m., the victim began to have a conversation with Anderson, a person whom she had never met before, while at a laundromat near the intersection of North Vancouver and North Lombard Street in Portland, Oregon. During the investigation, law enforcement learned that Anderson offered the woman a cleaning job at his nearby business. He brought the woman to his business and then refused to let her leave.

“Alexander Anderson used this opportunity to take advantage of a vulnerable member of our community,” said Multnomah County Senior Deputy District Attorney Amity Girt, who prosecuted this case. “This horrible situation was compounded by the physical and emotional injuries Mr. Anderson caused.”

After reporting the incident, the victim was examined at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center where a sexual assault forensic examination was conducted.

Detectives assigned to the Portland Police Bureau’s Sex Crimes Unit identified Anderson as the suspect in this case based on information that included the description provided by the victim of where she was held captive as well as his vehicle and business information.

While detectives continued to do follow up work on this case, the Oregon State Police Crime Lab’s forensic testing confirmed Anderson’s DNA was located on the victim’s body.

On August 12, 2019, Anderson appeared in Multnomah County Circuit Court and pleaded guilty to one count of kidnapping in the first degree and one count of sodomy in the first degree.

By changing his plea, Anderson admitted that he unlawfully and knowingly, without consent or legal authority, secretly confined the victim in a place where she was not likely to be found and that he intentionally interfered with her personal liberties and that he unlawfully and knowingly, by means of forcible compulsion, subjected her to oral sexual intercourse.

As part of his sentence, Anderson will have to register as a sex offender.

The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office recognizes the Portland Police Bureau’s Sex Crimes Unit and the Oregon State Police Crime Lab for their dedicated efforts investigating this case.

Additionally, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office recognizes the members of the District Attorney’s Victim Assistance Program for their commitment to supporting the victim throughout the criminal justice process.
