K9 NIKE CAPTURES SUSPECT FLEEING FROM STOLEN VEHICLE

Roseburg Police Dept.

On Friday, September 20th, 2019 Roseburg Police K9 Nike was used to assist the Winston Police Department after a vehicle pursuit that ended on Highway 42. 19 year old Abigail Wallace was driving a stolen car and attempted to elude police starting in Roseburg and ending near milepost 42 on Highway 42.  The pursuit ended when her vehicle was brought to a stop by an Oregon State Police Trooper using stop sticks. Wallace and her passenger fled from the car on foot, and refused to stop when told to do so.

K9 Nike was deployed and chased Wallace down a steep embankment and across a creek. Wallace started to give up, so K9 Nike was called back to his handler, and Wallace began running again. K9 Nike was again sent to capture Wallace, and she stopped again and pretended to give up so K9 Nike was again called back. Wallace refused to surrender to the police and again tried to flee.  K9 Nike chased after her for a third time and made a biting capture of Wallace and held her in place until Officers caught up to them, and took Wallace into custody. Wallace received superficial scrapes as a result of the bite, and was lodged in jail.

A Coos County K9 team deployed to track the passenger, and they were assisted by a Roseburg PD Officer, a Winston Police Officer, and a Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy in tracking the passenger up a mountain. Several articles of clothing were found, but they were unable to locate the passenger.
