Officers Arrest Woman Chasing School Kids From Bus Stop

Portland Police Bureau

On Friday, September 27, 2019 at 7:54a.m., East Precinct officers responded to a report of a woman chasing young people away from their school bus stop in the area of Southeast 122nd Avenue and Southeast Boise Street. Two officers working a partner car were in the area as the call was being dispatched and saw the suspect. They attempted to talked to her. She briefly ran from them but was quickly arrested. Officers determined that she had a barbecue-style lighter with which she had been chasing the children. Officers spoke with more than one student, but they believe other kids were chased away before they arrived. The young people were middle-school aged. There were no reported injuries.

Officers arrested Maryann R. Vernieri (photo), 31, of Portland. She was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on a charge of Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree.
