FATAL CRASH ON INTERSTATE 5-MARION COUNTY

On September 25, 2021 at approximately 2:50 PM, Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a multi-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 5 near milepost 277.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Freightliner CMV operated by Long Kim Phan (57) of Portland, was traveling northbound when the CMV rear-ended a Subaru wagon operated by Caitlin Dutterer (37) of Salem, who was slowing for heavy traffic ahead. The initial collision caused a chain reaction crash involving a Ford pickup, operated by Ricardo Guzman-Garcia (39) of Bend, a Honda CRV operated by Anissa Teslow (36) of Philomath, a Cadillac XTS SUV operated by James Tier (74) of Redmond and a Chevrolet Suburban towing a boat operated by Carl Parker (53) of Dallas. 

A passenger in the Subaru wagon, Andrew Dutterer (43) of Salem, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. The other involved operators along with multiple passengers were transported to local area hospitals with minor injuries. 

Interstate 5 northbound was closed for approximately 4.5 hours.
