EARLY MORNING BARN FIRE UNDER INVESTIGATION

At shortly after 12:30 am on February 26, 2022, a large fire at a barn in the 11000 block of Hazelgreen Road NE was reported to 911 operators. Fire personnel from multiple area fire agencies responded and were on scene for several hours while extinguishing the 3-alarm fire at the 50,000 square foot barn. The barn is reported to have stored close to 1500 tons of wheat straw.
Deputies responded to the scene along with fire investigators from the Oregon State Police and Office of the State Fire Marshal. Investigators believe the fire is suspicious in nature, the cause and origin of the fire have not yet been determined.
Firefighting efforts were led by the Silverton Fire District who was assisted by the following agencies:
