DETECTIVES SEEK ADDITIONAL VICTIMS FOLLOWING ARREST OF SERIAL FRAUD SUSPECT

On July 13, 2021, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call for service in the Cedar Mill community of Washington County. This area is part of the Enhanced Service Patrol District (ESPD). The caller reported that $60,000 had been taken out of her bank account a couple of weeks prior. At the time, the victim did not have any suspect information and reported the fraud to her bank.

On July 21, 2021, deputies spoke with staff at a local dental office and were told someone came into their office saying they needed major dental work done costing $60,000. They were attempting to use the identity of the previously mentioned fraud victim. In the meantime, staff with the fraud victim’s bank noted that more attempts were made to access her bank account. 

On August 25, 2021, the victim told investigators that the suspect, a previous in-home care provider, had applied for various loans in her name and had charged thousands of dollars on her credit cards. Several more attempts to transfer money from the victim’s accounts, change her account information, and open new credit accounts were made over the coming weeks and months.

On December 20, 2021, a Washington County Grand Jury heard details of this case, and, as a result, a warrant was issued for the suspect, Jobee Rene McCann the following day.

On February 16, 2022, Jobee Rene McCann was arrested and lodged in the Washington County Jail. McCann is currently booked on the following charges:

• Aggravated theft in the first degree (x2)
• Theft in the first degree
• Aggravated identity theft (x4)
• Identity Theft (x7)
• Criminal mistreatment in the first degree (x4)
• Unlawful procession of heroin (x2)
• Unlawful procession of methamphetamine (x2)
• Endangering the welfare of a minor (x3)

On February 26, 2022, detectives obtained a search warrant for McCann’s residence and found more evidence of fraudulent activity, including social security cards, credit cards, passports, and driver’s licenses from various people. In total, 21 additional victims were discovered. Evidence of drug use was also found in areas where three young children had access to.
