FATAL CRASH ON HIGHWAY 20 NEAR CIRCLE BLVD

CORVALLIS, Ore. – On Sunday, December 18, 2022 at approximately 4:30 p.m., Benton County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) Deputies responded to a fatal crash near milepost one on Highway 20, west of Circle Blvd, Corvallis. 

A Honda CRV was traveling eastbound when a Volkswagen Touareg, traveling in the opposite direction, left its lane of travel at the curve in the road, and hit the Honda head-on. 

The forty-seven-year-old female driver of the Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene. The twenty-four-year-old male driver of the Touareg was transported to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.

Highway 20 was closed for approximately four hours to investigate the crash. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.

The Benton County Crash Team was assisted on the scene by ODOT, Corvallis Police Department, and Corvallis Fire Department. 

BCSO will not be releasing further information at this time.  Any additional inquiries can be made to the Linn or Benton County District Attorney’s Office.

BCSO has responded to 13 crash fatalities this year, which is more than Benton County has seen in over 20 years. Distracted driving, impaired driving, and an increase in vehicles on the roads are believed to be the main factors for the rise.
